I don't know much about classic rock except what's on the radio. What are some good classic rock bands that weren't so well known that are good and not really on the radio?

All I listen to is old metal, punk, and thrash bands. My ears are tired and I need some new music. Perhaps a new feel good genre to explore.

Half of the bands I see listed in this thread were VERY well-known in their prime, like Jethro Tull (are you kidding??), BS&T and Genesis.

I think most of the not so popular groups were the local one that were never quite able to make the leap to nationwide. In Northeast Ohio the biggest was The Michael Stanley Band.

I just thought about MSB yesterday. I spent many nights at the old Agora in Youngstown and Blossom in Cleveland watching them.

They should have been WAY more national of a band.

I saw these guys along with Foghat at Big Surf in AZ around 71 or 72. I think Humble Pie and Foghat meet the specs (except for the "weren't so well known" and the "not really on the radio" parts.)

Are you looking for bands that aren't on the radio or music that isn't on the radio?

There's a lot of bands that get on or two of their top songs played (over and over and over) on the radio that have a lot of material that you just don't hear. Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Styx, Eagles, and on and on. Even the Beatles.

You hear just a small section of their work on commercial radio. They have so much more to offer than that.
