Early? Probally half of them :P

Imagine by Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Bullet with Butterfly Wings by Corbin

despite all my rage i am still just a rat in a cage
then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
despite all my rage i am still just a rat in a cage

Yesterday is history
And tomorrow is a mystery

"delicate few" by O.A.R.----saw em last night for the second time...they rock
Amazing how we all want this life a little more everyday.
It's crazy how we pick ourselves up just to let us down anyway.
The one thing that you're missing is loungin' on the log right next to you.
So pick up that precious something and relax for a delicate few.

"hold on true" also by o.a.r.

said but lately I've been feeling mighty old.
I said the Sun has got me cracked this wind has got me cold.
And I'm so damn tired of losing my friends.
Every single time I go and lose my ends.
I say but that's okay, I'm on my way.
I don't appear near, but maybe I'll end up that way.
And in awhile when I realize there's something new.
But until then I got to hold on true...

love both these songs...went to thier concert in denver last night...awsome show!!!!!! great vibe..... they'll make it big sometime.....

I hope I don't ruin anyone's image of me but one of my favorite groups is Skinny Puppy. From Smothered Hope:

smothered hope fly from sorrow for a new divine tomorrow
i just don't want to know anymore
life shifts up and down everybody knows it's wrong
why don't you care? now do it seem fair?

This is "Mojo" by Hank Billings. He's a friend of mine who is a singer songwriter, really great stuff. I'll post my favorite couple lines, and below will be the full lyrics.

"All and all the years been long and I’m drinking now professionally
I got a feeling that I’m headed for an end and it won't be coming naturally
My rock bottom is a bottomless pit and I’m running out of people to blame
But if there is a bottom it's a pile of shit and need enough to ease the pain
I hit the ground w/o going insane"

Full Lyrics:

All and all the years been long and I’m drinking now professionally
I got a feeling that I’m headed for an end and it won't be coming naturally
My rock bottom is a bottomless pit and I’m running out of people to blame
But if there is a bottom it's a pile of shit and need enough to ease the pain
I hit the ground w/o going insane

I wish I had my compass and my mojo back
Life's coming down on me like a heart attack
And I’m feeling like a rolling stone that wants to roll on back
I wish I had my compass and my mojo back

Late at night all you need to find is a girl to match your self esteem
You never know how things are going to go with a girl that doesn't ask your name
And if you wake up in the morning first, have the courtesy to get the fuck out
And if you wake up in the morning, have the courtesy to lock the house

I wish I had my compass and my mojo back
life's coming down on me like a heart attack
and I’m feeling like a rolling stone that wants to roll on back
I wish I had my compass and my mojo back

And I was thinking god you son of a bitch
Why you do you have to play this trick on me
And I was thinking, no man can understand how this pain is coming down on me
And I don’t' think it's funny that I’m not allowed to take a chance
And I don’t' think it's funny that I’m not allowed to leave the dance

I wish I had my compass and my mojo back
Life's coming down on me like a heart attack
And I’m feeling like a rolling stone that wants to roll on back
I wish I had my compass and my mojo back
--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

I didn't read all the posts to this thread, but in case it hasn't been mention. One of the cool lycras to a song that popped into my knoggin was from Joe Walsh's "Life's been good to me song".

Here's a small sample:

"I go to parties sometimes until four, it's hard to leave when you can't find the door".

or how about the Eagles "Hotel California" song:

"You can check in any time you want, but you can never leave".

I know there's more, but those popped into my head.

;)

This has always been one of my favorite songs, but this one verse has always bugged me. "Imagine there's no heaven" is something I rather not do.

Here's one of mine:

A little Indian brave who before he was ten
played war games in the woods with his Indian friends,
and he built a dream that when he grew up
he would be a fearless warrior Inidan chief.
Many moons past and more the dream grew stronger,
until tomorrow he would sing his first war song
and fight his first battle but something went wrong
suprise attack killed him in his sleep that night.
Jimmy Hendrix, Castles Made of Sand, 2nd verse.

'I'm not running
I'm not hiding
I'm not reaching
I'm just resting in the arms of the great wide open
Gonna pull my soul in
And I'm almost home.'

Mary Chapin Carpenter, Almost Home

or
'You know the dream is like a river
Ever changing as it flows
And the dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes...

And I will sail my vessel
Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
so I will sail my vessel
Til the river runs dry.'

Garth Brooks, The River

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Bullet with Butterfly Wings by Corbin

heh, that's CORGAN! :P

Disarm you with a smile,
Leave you like you left me here,
To wither in denial;
The bitterness of one who's left alone...

-- Corgan, Disarm (The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream)

Through the fish-eyed lens of tear-stained eyes,
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time.

-- Waters, The Final Cut (Pink Floyd - The Final Cut)

Some say the end is near,
Some say we'll see armageddon soon,
I certainly hope we will,
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bull... shit... three... ring
Circus... side... show of

Freaks here in this
Hopeless fucking
Hole we call L.A.
The only way
To fix it is
To flush it all away
Any fucking time
Any fucking day
Learn to swim
I'll see you down in
Arizona bay

-- Keenan, Aenima (Tool - Aenima)

I must be chasing after rainbows,
One thing for sure you never answer when I call,
And I wipe away the water from face
To look through the eyes of a stranger...

-- LeBon, The Seventh Stranger (Duran Duran - Seven and The Ragged Tiger)

But that was the whole point to this song, just imagining these different scenarios.

By the way, did you ever see the WKRP episode where Gerry Fallwell was a guest and was protestiong the station playing that song? It was one if their more dramatic moments and a WKRP classic, second only to the Flying Turkey episode. ;)

No, I never saw that episode.

I don't agree with Lennon's philosophy, but I love his talent. I would never ban the song or his message. I like to think I am smart enough to make up my own mind.:P

oh oh oh, a few more!

My gift of self is raped;
My privacy is raked.

And yet i find, and yet i find
repeating in my head:
if i can't be my own
i'd be better dead.

--Staley, Nutshell (Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies)

Cloudless every day you fall
Upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me
To rise

And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors
Of morning

--Waters/Gilmour/Mason/Wright, Echoes (Pink Floyd - Meddle)

She spreads herself wide open to let the insects in
She leaves a trail of honey to show me where she's been
She has the blood of reptile just underneath the skin
Seeds from a thousand others drip down from within

Oh my beautiful liar
Oh my precious whore
My disease my infection
I am so impure

Devils speak of the way in which she'll manifest...
(damn i love that line B|)
--Reznor, Reptile (Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral)

Two trailer park girls go 'round the outside,
'round the outside, 'round the outside.

Don't know the artist, but I heard it on the " 2 Guys named Chris " radio show on the way to work this morning...

RAWHIND

"Colon, colon, colon,
I'm pounding in your colon,
Your colon is so swollen,
Rawhind !

Push it in...Pull it out !
Pull it out...Push it in !
Push it in...Pull it out !
Rawhind ! "

I was laughing so hard I almost *rear-ended* the car in front of me. :D

QuickDraw.....your icon has always frightened me. It looks like something straight out of a Stephen King nightmare. [:/]

Ooh! Ooh! I just thought of another one that I recently downloaded:
"The party didn't start till I walked in
And I probably won't leave before the thing ends
But in the meantime, the in-between-time
You go for yours, I'll go for mine!"
There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Here's an old country tune that I always liked due to its use of imagery & alliteration:

Dark As a Dungeon

Come and listen, young fellers, so young and so fine
And seek not your fortune in the dark dreary mines
It will form as a habit and seep in your soul
'Til the stream of your blood runs as black as the coal

(Chorus)
Where it's dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew
Where the dangers are double and the pleasures are few
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mines

There's many a man who I've known in my day
Who lived just to labor his whole life away
Like a fiend with his dope or a drunkard his wine
A man will have lust for the lure of the mines

Well I hope when I'm gone and the ages shall roll
My body will blacken and turn into coal
Then I'll look from the door of my heavenly home
And pity the miner that's digging my bones
Speed Racer

I got another fave from my Empire Records soundtrack...it reminds me of skydiving:

Always tried to breeze through my life
Repetitious things I've done one million times
Who are you to tell me it will always be this way
I close my eyes and I turn around and leave it all behind

So free for the moment
Lost somewhere between the earth and the sky
So free for the moment
That's because I want to be lost
Don't try to find me

Put....your hands....over....your eyes....
Jump out....of the plane....
There is....no...pilot....
