Texas Beach Vacation??

Recommended Posts

All of the travel advice I have gotten here has always been great, so here I go again:

I'm looking into taking the kids to the beach and Texas is the closest. I don't need anything to do or see and remoteness would be a plus. What would be ideal is a house to rent for a week, or close to it, directly on the beach. The further east, the better. This would most likely be in June.

Suggestions?

Galveston or SPI.

Actually, SPI might be best with the kids since you have a Schlitterbaun there!

I've been working in Galveston recently. Dave. and they have a Schlitterbaun there also.

I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

Really? Wow, it's been a while since I've been there!

Well then, it would be a tough choice for me except that Galveston has more stuff around.

That's true. There's a battleship and sub there, which would be pretty cool.

If you want remoteness, the Bolivar Peninsula counts. It was devastated by Hurricane Ike, but it's still just a spit of land with beaches on one side. There's a ferry to Galveston (dolphin sightings common), and an exit at the other end as well.

Plenty of beaches, and it's farther east than either SPI or Galveston.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Sounds like the best of both worlds. Cool.

SPI & NPI are waaaayyyyy tooooo crowded and full of drunks & idiots & fisherman. The beach is heavily patroled and fines are hefty for everything from speeding 2 miles over to littering.

I prefer to head a little further south than most of the beaches mentioned above, especially if you want remoteness.

Check out Port Aransas. It's a little harder to find something "ON" the beach there, but it a really cool little town (it's getting harder & harder to find somethign on the beach anywhere in TX due to TOBA... but that's not a bad thing)
