Trailer battery chargers

Recommended Posts

I've had a few issues latey trying to get the house battery to charge when plugged into mains power.
So after extensive seraching for fuses and broken wires. I found the battery charger.

It's an LEAB chAMP 12V/17A charger.
I have checked all the fuses leading to it, and cant find fault.
So I took it out of the van, and connected it to a standard 240V outlet, and then put a multimeter on the DC output wires. I did not get any voltage reading

Is this the correct way to test the charger?

Does it look like my charger is STOOFED?

It's a completely sealed unit so I cannot check anything on it.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Connect it to the battery, check the voltage, then plug it in and check the voltage again. If the voltage is going up, then it's probably working.

Some chargers must be hooked up to a battery or there will be no output. Or if the battery you are trying to charge is dead enough the charger will not “sense” a battery and therefore will not charge. Not saying that is your problem but it is something to consider.

I put it on an older battery with an 11V charge remaining, and still nothing, so Im assuming it's knackered, and time for a replacement.

The current one is a LEAB chAmp.
Im also looking at a "Ctek. MSX25" Anyone have other recommendations?
