JohnRich 4 #6 December 2, 2004 This is the only unusual one I have. Look closely at the 4-5,000 foot area and you'll see why it has that large orange sticker on it...
sdctlc 0 #7 December 3, 2004 Quotewhat a great idea!! where did you got that done?? Freefall Accessories did it for me. I know that they have been advertising the custom faces for awhile but I had heard that Alti was now offering them as well. There are a lot of good altimeters out there and if your looking look at all of them but dont just run to Alti since they are the most common.... I have had a number of Alti's and do like them. that said, I was nothing but pleased/impressed with FFA's service combined with the quality of altimeter... They were recently added to the gear review section and I think I am the only one to provide a review. I have a stainless Steel version of hte altimeters that they offer but a couple of the highlights of them include a fully transferrable lifetime warranty and in the case of the evolution altimeters they are 30% or so lighter the the alti's (that is if the weight is something your really concerned about) Anyway go check them out and compare them to the other units on the market! http://www.freefallaccessories.com/Homepage.htm Scott C. I dont work or distribute for them in any way, just am happy with the altimeter and the service and quality it provides"He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" I'm just so into cheetahs (got a cheetah jumpsuit to match.) :) Nice lookig face and if you have a jumpsuit to match, cool.... I had more then enough help from David at FFA when we were going back and forth on face options, and was given a number of variations to choose from. Also as a side I got a awesome deal on mine and price was not even close to an issue when I was comparing it to other altimeter options, even comparing to units w/o a custom face.. I would suggest giving them a call and finding what they can do, thats is what I did.... Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
wmw999 2,370 #11 December 3, 2004 I'll post a picture of mine later. It has Mickey Mouse hand-painted on it. It also has the yellow (a full 1000', not that wimpy 500' most of them have ) hand-painted on with equal expertise. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. df8m1 24 #13 December 4, 2004 For those that missed it on the first time around, here is a picture of Larry Ekstrom's custom altimeter, honoring his 10,000th jump at Napoleon Skydiving Center last June. We again want to thank everyone who contributed to this project. Specs: Polished Stainless Steel housing with 24k yellow gold lense ring. Ten diamonds set in 24k white gold installed in faceplate. The altimeter along with a plaque announcing his achievement are displayed in a hand-made Brazilian Cherry case, lined in padded Italian velvet and is closed with hand-fitted glass. Total material cost: $1,400 Sorry about the image quality, they only allow a 60k file, if you right click on the image and refresh the picture with full quality, it will help. Thanks again Dave Woodruff President Free Fall Accessories, Inc.

JohnRich 4 #15 December 4, 2004 QuoteIt also appears to be one of the old ones with only the red color in the warning area. Yes, it would be pretty old. That was my first altimeter, purchased in 1978. It had been underwater, dragged through mud, and survived all kinds of mishaps, and still kept on ticking. Then one day about 5 years ago I was replacing the lens, and in unscrewing it, I managed to break the needle indicator off. That's non-fixable damage, so my baby was retired after 20 years of usage...
JohnRich 4 #16 December 4, 2004 Re: larry's diamond altimeter (54.5 KB) You need to put a ".jpg" suffix on that image, so that everyone's computer will know what software to use to open and display it. My PC doesn't know what to do with a .cgi file... That's a very nice altimeter. Wow!
JohnRich 4 #17 December 4, 2004 Quotei put a sticker of me and my kid in mine. Um, someday that sticker is likely to peel up at the corners, and interfere with the needle movement... AGHHH!!!

df8m1 24 #19 December 5, 2004 thanks, I am very pleased how well it turned out. Sorry for that. I am not a computer expert. I also do not build dictionariesI can not seem to be able to edit the post to fix the attachment. I have renamed the attachment for Larry's Diamond Altimeter below. Thank you for pointing out the oversight.
miller 0 #20 December 7, 2004 Here's mine (crappy crappy lighting, though, not a great picture). It matches my black and white V-split Vector. What's really cool though, is that this isn't just a custom face. I worked with Dave at Freefall Accessories to customize the whole thing. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the numbers aren't just printed on the face decal. They are actually hand cut chrome leaf, and match the shine of the stainless steel body. Also, the needle is actually polished stainless steel, which works really well with all of the other shine and the black face. I am very pleased with how this turned out. I've seen probably a dozen other alitimeters that he's made, including Larry's diamond altimeter posted above, his Bill Booth tandem tribute altimeters, and the Freak Bros. altimeters that he made for Missy and Rook Nelson, and they're all beautiful. Even his stock, off the shelf stuff is just really clean. Great warranty, too. Mike

df8m1 24 #24 December 19, 2004 This one was made for Bill Booth, honoring the 20th anniversary of tandem jumping. He E-Mailed me saying it is in his lobby and is part of the factory tour. Mr. Booth wanted a Brazilian Cherry Case to match the molding in his office. He also likes blue, so we use a blue Italian Velvet to cradle the Stainless and 24k gold altimeter. We made a different one for Ted Strong as well, To be shown later.
jvcallahan 0 #25 January 2, 2005 This altimeter was made for me by Free Fall Accessories. That is my son on the face. Dave from ffai was very helpful on everything that I wanted on my custom altimeter. He gave me several different options on the layout and even custom made a wider wrist strap for it[]. I can't wait till the spring to show it off and jump it.We were Hero's Now were Zero's
