Data recovery software?

Recommended Posts

I considered posting this in the video forum, but it's not really editing-related...

Can anyone personally vouch for a data recovery programme that will allow me to restore my deleted emails? Our IT guys so far have had no joy recovering from the back-up so I would like to try from my Mac directly...

Note: I am looking to plug my Macbook into my iMac, so the software has to be for Mac.

Company called Wisco (at www.backupoutlook.com) has software that works well. Can't remember if they also have software for Mac though.

Looks like we should have had something like this already... But from the description, I'm not sure it will recover what is already lost...

There are very powerful programs that can recover deleted files as long as they haven't been overwritten.

Once you delete the files, they remain on the hard drive, but are marked deleted and are there until they're over written by new stuff. If you're still using the computer, even sometimes just having it on, it can start overwriting it.

Mac's use the EXT file system (same as Linux), find a local tech nerd familiar with Linux and see if he can save it still. There are multitudes of forensic recovery software packages out there for free that run on Linux and they're quite scary once you realize how safe your deleted files REALLY are.

Yep... As soon as it happened, I turned the Mac off and haven't touched it since today, precisely for this reason... That if the emails can't be recovered from our end, perhaps they are still on the Mac.

*sigh*... Everything I'm reading suggests I can't do it myself. Heck, I can't even start it in Hard Disk Mode because my Macbook Air has Thunderbolt and my iMac has Firewire... Grrhhh...

But if someone knows a miracle cure, please share it!!! :S

I am probably a little late to the party but I don't suppose you had Time Machine configured on the Mac?

Nope. That would have been *too* easy... [:/]
