Elsinore or Perris

Recommended Posts

Quote

Perris = Big, soft circle of freshly plowed dirt, plus nice man in truck to come get you so you don't have to walk back. Swoopers either over at the pond or on the grass, either way, out of the student circle. Sometimes hard to find someone to jump with if you're new. Perris gets so many new faces. You have to ask to be pointed towards the LOs, but you'll have a great time once you find them. Also, wind tunnel.

Elsinore = bad rotors if the wind is from the wrong way, ankle high brush if you don't land on the grass, more experienced jumpers landing on the grass. Sometimes no LOs, but you can usually find someone to jump with if you ask around. Really friendly dropzone, welcoming to newbies.

Agreed. Don't be intimidated by the size of Perris. Perris has everything. And for new jumpers, check out organizing and other guidance coming from FURY. http://www.perrisperformanceplus.com/fury.htm
FURY is developing more programs to guide young jumpers. Email Christy and she'll get you started.

I'm getting sent out to attend a conference in Anaheim, June 8-12, and I was thinking about getting some jumps at either of these DZs. Since this thread is four years old, I was wondering if someone could tell me if most of the thread information is still accurate.

I'm not a swooper, but I'm a good freeflyer (IMHO), if any of that matters.

I have my A license. I'm going to hit one dz for a day so that I can jump a couple of times. I'm only there for a week, and my wuffo travelling companion has so graciously agreed to spend one day of our week vacation at a dz so that I can jump while I'm down there.

Then,, as much as I love Both DZ's...Perris, it has much more to offer a Wuffo that is just hanginhg out whiel a friemd jumps!

Elsinore has a more friendly vibe, but doesn't have a terrific restaurant. Easier to meet people at S'nore, and if a new face is seen around here, they're absorbed quickly and put into organized loads. Manifest usually has pix of organizers up so you can get an LO quickly.
Wingsuits, RW, Freefly organizers always here.

That's a simple, yet brillant idea. I've never see that at any of the dz's I've traveled to.

FYI, that weekend Perris has an Australian 100-way camp which is cool to watch if you've never seen that kind of thing. Also, Elsinore has their annual 6-way poker run event that Saturday which is a lot of fun even if you're primarily a freeflyer.

I've made around 50-60 jumps at Perris and have about 12 hours in the tunnel there and I've made 2000 jumps at Elsinore. They're both cool dropzones.

Hi DSE,

Might I suggest ANNIE'S which is just across the road & slightly north of the casino.

It is a wild-n-crazy eatery. B|

And the food is quite good.

And tell them it's his first time there. :)

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking I might check out Perris' windtunnel first, and then spend most of Saturday at Elsinore. Can you describe the poker run? I'm not familiar with that kind of event, but it sounds like something I wouldn't mind taking part in. Also, how fast is the windtunnel?

Hi Shotgun,

What kind of food do they have?

I would call it typical American fare. It is NOT a high-class place.

Annie is a Brit so go and discover. :P

Good to know :) I've been looking for more of the local places to eat everytime I'm there [beyond Tacos Elsinore and Gina's].

Annie's is great. Do breakfast there and hit Kokoro next door for sushi dinner. It kicks ass. If you're really feeling brave, ask for the Sudsy Roll. >:(
