What does this symbol mean to you ?

Both a pound sign and a number sign. I guess having multiple answers would be useful this time. :P

I remember when phones didn't have the "#" symbol on them. :P

I remember when you had to stick your finger in a hole and move it around.

***It's not a hash mark, these are hash marks :P

You got no argument from me!

Not the most common usage of hash marks I fear.

Just sayin. it's way down on the page - and only ONE reference.

# Tell your location people! ;)

FIFY. ;)

The hash symbol, outside of America has been referred to as the hash symbol for a long, long time.

All that twitter has done, is shown Americans what the symbol is really called ;)

******0a23

WTF?

$ echo '#' | od -h
0000000 0a23
0000002

You mean 0x23.

Without -n echo appends a 0x0a newline character and that second byte was interpreted as the most significant bits since you're using a little endian box.

echo -n \# | od -t x1
0000000 23
0000001
