I think that it's great that you are give good pre-warning to the folks over there, so they can 'Make other plans'... you could increase their 'chances' by adding dates to those locations en-route

If you want to add a little adventure and go a route that very few travel I would suggest getting off the 10 when you come out of San Antonio and jump on the 90 ( Texas/pecos trail).
You can run that right into El Paso.
The only town along the way is del rio otherwise your looking at about 500 miles of loneliness.
It's beautiful down there...lots of wild life, the rio grande, and a couple interesting tiny towns.
Doesn't really add too much time to the trip and would be a neat experience.
