Gene03 0 #1 April 16, 2014 An Army General, A Marine Colonel and a Navy Admiral are having drinks at the Officers Club one day when the discussion turns to which branch has the bravest men. The General takes them to his base and orders a Soldier to take a hand grenade 200 yards out on the range, pull the pin, drop the spoon and count to ten before throwing the grenade. The Soldier does as ordered and at 6 seconds is blown to bits. The General says, “That gentlemen, is a brave Soldier.” They go next to the Marine base where the Colonel orders a pilot to fly his jet to 30,000 feet, nose over into a vertical dive aiming for the end of the runway and pull out at 200 feet. The pilot does as ordered and impacts, resulting in a spectacular fireball. The Colonel says, “That gentlemen is a brave Marine.” Going to the Admirals ship they find a Sailor chipping paint high up on the mast. The admiral yell up to the Sailor, “What's your name Sailor? “Seamen First Class Reilly Sir.” is the reply. “Seaman Reilly, I'm ordering you to jump off the mast, land standing on your feet in front of us and give us a salute.” The Sailor yells back down, “Sir, with all due respect, FUCK YOU, Sir. With a grin the Admiral turns to his shocked friends and says, “That gentlemen takes balls.”“The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him. For many years I have kept boats at marina's in Ilwaco WA or Hammond OR. I have had a chance to see what the coasties from Cape Disappointment Station and other small Coast Guard staions like Neah Bay, WA or at La Push, WA or all along the Pacific Coast get to do to help fellow mariners. While some of their "saves" are pretty mundane, others are nothing short of miraculous. To put to sea in their small boats in the very worst conditions in the weather the Not-So-Pacific Ocean can throw at them to render life saving assistence to those in need on an angry ocean, takes a huge amount of bravery.
