jclalor 12 #28 July 2, 2014 StreetScooby I've heard F-18s land at 150+ mph. They are as big and heavy as a fully loaded 18-wheel truck, IIRC. Blows me away... I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that thing... Forgive me if you heard this one... The Navy F-14 that gets diverted from it's carrier and has to land at a USAF base, after landing and slamming on the brakes and then quickly coming to a stop, the pilot says to his co-pilot, "That runway sure was short" to which the co-pilot replied, "yea, but it sure was wide" I spent a couple of years with F-18s on board a carrier, their maximum launch weight is around 50,000 pounds and their recovery weight is around 30,000 pounds. A fully loaded truck is 80,000 pounds.
