No. it's not possible. Many planes have landing after losing a wing tip, but losing a wing at the root it's no longer flyable.

I'm trying to think of the military jet that lost a huge chunk of wing and landed, but the difference there is how much lift the body provides. Beyond a certain speed and power the wing was almost ornamental because the fuselage itself was acting as an airfoil, but the video posted here; no way.

I know the A-10 has landed with some pretty significant damage. I have heard of them coming in with half a wing missing and most of the tail gone.

What I was really thinking of though was the stunt planes that hover on the prop like a helicopter

I think you'll find that requires a significant amount of aileron to counter the torque. Lose a wing at the root and it's not going to work.

If you look closely at the fractured wing root, you will see that it is built more like a model ... and less like a real airplane with spars, etc.
