Airbus A320 goes down in the Alps. :(

Is it just me or are a lot of planes crashing in a relatively short space of time at the moment?

Probably just media reporting patterns, like the summer with all the shark attack reports a while back. Turned out to be below average, just heavier coverage.

Video of the debris... They are saying "everything is pulvarised." "Are there still bodies?" "Nothing has been moved" "that looks like the registration number (immatriculation)" (and they name parts of the registration numbers/letters.)

Another Airbus. I'm starting to feel like there's a trend going on here.

I don't have time to be a proper analysis, but looking at the data, I don't see much or a trend at all. It's easy to have confirmation bias...

I saw one report that the largest body parts are briefcase sized. The first responders who are there onsite are seeing things that can never be unseen. Picking up the pieces on a crash site is a thankless job that stays with you for a lifetime[:/]

Strange one.

Sounds like the pilots were incapacitated in some way. No response to ATC calls.

Sounds like the plane overflew several airports that they could have put the bird down.

High altitude decompression maybe, with the pilots succumbing before they could do anything apart from starting a descent. At 38 grand they would not have much time to even get oxygen masks on

No distress call, although that is not the first reaction you would expect anyway. The descent sounds like it was controlled (autopilot perhaps) and they weren't able to prevent it going all the way in. Plane absolutely shredded.

There was a crash a few years ago in Greece where the plane did almost the same thing, flew on, unresponsive, but eventually ran out of fuel and then crashed.

Something similar here perhaps?

One thing I would point out - random events typically happen in bursts. Check out this link and check out the 2 images - http://arachnoid.com/randomness/

This just in...

CNN is saying an unnamed military source has said one of the pilots was locked out of the cabin prior to the crash.

If true...HOLY FUCK.

(CNN)Latest developments:

• 7:51 p.m. ET: One of the pilots on board Germanwings Flight 9525 was locked out of the cockpit when the plane crashed Tuesday, a senior military official told The New York Times, citing evidence from the cockpit voice recorder.

I thought suicide when I heard the accounts of the crash this morning.

Rapid straight descent, no distress call, no deviation from flight path just a rapid dive. Sad.

Is it just me or are the media really riding this horse for all it's worth? From the lastest link (bolding mine)...

One of the main questions is why the pilots did not communicate with air traffic controllers as the plane began its unusual descent, suggesting that the pilots or the plane’s automated systems may have been trying to maintain control of the aircraft as it lost altitude.

What?

This is what happens when it's a slow news day and your average reporter starts revealing how little he/she knows about a particular subject.

This video was linking in another forum i lurk around in...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixEHV7c3VXs

Which means the pilot had to activly lock the door to keep the rest of the crew out. Media in my country also reporting that the french attorney Brice Robin is now saying that the co-pilot Andreas Lubitz chrashed the plane, was awake and did not let the crew inside.

What a shitty way to commit suicide if thats true...

Edit: The sound file did catch the attempt of crew and pilot trying to get in, passengers seems to have known little until seconds before impact where the screams begin.

Secure cockpit doors have done a good job of protecting the pilots from crazy passengers outside the door

Have they? Do we have any actual data of how often this has actually happened since they have been installed post 9-11?

And here I thought people jumping in front of passenger trains, buses or deliberately going in while skydiving were some fucked up ways to off yourself.

Taking out 150+ people while you're at it though... that takes the biscuit. >:(
