ryoder 1,512 #5 July 9, 2015 Who cares about the bun? I still won't eat one of those tubes of mystery meat. "There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
muff528 3 #7 July 9, 2015 They're not mystery meat. They're hot dogs. At least they aren't anthracite ...or dustmite, ...or whatever that stuff is that they eat down in OZ.

normiss 718 #9 July 9, 2015 Proper quality ones are, that's for sure. Lykes was a former customer of mine and a hot dog plant was on the locations. Nowhere near the visual impact the pork processing plant was! I'm still unsure what they put in theirs.

JerryBaumchen 1,236 #15 July 9, 2015 Hi stayhigh, Quotesteamed buns if you boil the hotdogs. The last time that I bought a hotdog in Paris ( summer of '63 ) they had these street vendors that would push these small carts in which they boiled the hotdogs. The cart also had a stainless steel ( I hope ) rod that was somewhat pointed. They would take the hotdog bun ( the buns were not cut as they are here in the USA ) and push it down onto the rod forming a 'cylinder' into which you put your dog; along with whatever goodies you wanted on it. SkyCoi 0 #24 July 10, 2015 Toppings and toasting vs. steaming are certainly important aspects of a solid dog build, but we're forgetting the second most important part (after ensuring that it's Vienna Beef) - that it's a potato bun!
muff528 3 #25 July 10, 2015 Man, you guys always over-engineer everything! Oscar Mayer or similar dog (not to exclude higher-end dogs). Boiled, broiled or grilled or even fried till they pop. Merita, or Wonder, (or generic) bun, ...even a folded piece of white bread is OK. Frenches mustard. Onions, if available. Sometimes sweet relish, sometimes chili or cheese. That's IT!
