Super bowl ads

The Bud "Horse & Dog buddies" one was cute. A little forced, but cute.

The Doritos ones have been good. Who do you want to sit next to?

The "Tortoise and the Hare" ad was pretty good. They had been hyping it the whole time and I hadn't figured out where it was going or who it was from. I knew the tortoise was going to win, but wasn't expecting him to use the new Mercedes GT to do it (which is a really cool car).

I don't really care about football (hand egg, or whatever), so other than having those I care about around me enjoying it, the only reason to actually WATCH the game is the commercials.

The last decade has seen them go steadily downhill. The last five years has seen them practically disappear from view on an entertainment scale.[:/]

Agreed...but I think the ROI isn't what it used to be either. The world economy got pretty dim after 2008.

I think the Doritos in the airplane was my favorite lol. How many people fell for the Chevy blackout? hahaha

My girlfriend was sitting there like what the fuck?!?

I sat there and grinned and when it came back she accused me of knowing what was going on.

Yes that nationwide commercial WAS very sad.

Can anyone EXPLAIN to us,,,,,, just HOW an insurance company "keeps kids safe ">?????? It seems to me, that they are only On the scene....AFTER tragedy occurs...I don't get it...:|
The Fiat/Viagra ad was cute... and the Dove commercial "Like a Girl " was Eye-opening and inspiring at the same time...

Ah Jimmy -- the Dove commercial was only surprising if you're male.

But I too loved the Doritos airplane commercial, and the Dove one started up a nice discussion in the group of friends, all skydivers, mostly being friends since the early 80's

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

JetBlue had something for that.

(I won't make any (more) comments about how the plane appears to be shut down joking that they cant find the 'ON' switch) :D

The insurance companies are very interested in safety. They have good stats on accidents and their causes. They are usually very willing to help their customers do a "safety survey" and find places where safety can be improved.
If nothing else, they will have a page on their website, something like "10 ways to make your home safer."
Remember the AllState (I think?) ads a couple years ago promoting safe driving courses for teens? They started off with a line of cars, each full of kids and quoted a stat about how many "never make it home."

But it's all about the bottom line. It's cheaper to pay for a safety course than to pay out the claim.

For the tub: Presumably there's a dead kid floating in it. But how much will the insurance company have to pay for the flood damage?
For the tipped over TV: Presumably there's a dead kid under it (it's actually a very common accident). But how much will the insurance company have to pay for the claim?

If a small cost in education (never leave kids alone in the tub, always secure flat screen TVs with a solid mount) can save the insurance company a bunch of claim payouts, great.
If it saves lives too, well, that's a nice side effect.

Yes, I'm a bit cynical about insurance companies.

And I know the people that work for them actually do care.

But for the shareholders, it's all about the bottom line.

To no one in particular: fuck the ads! What about the worst play call EVER in a Super Bowl? Fucking Seahawks just gave the game away with 20 seconds left throwing an interception from the 1 yard line on 2nd down??? Holy shit.

I know that Marshawn Lynch had 5 attempts to run it in from the 1 yard line during the season and only made it once, but geez, it's 2nd down! You've got time and timeouts to run another play or two.

They'll be talking about this one for decades. :S

There was a football game on too? Wasn't that just filler between the ads?

I kind-of like watching hand-egg, but it's irritating that, on average, there is only 11 minutes of action in a game supposedly taking one hour, and which commonly occupies over 3 hours from start to finish.

I actually did this for the first 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter.
There was 1 minute, 22 seconds of actual 'game' being played in that 10 minutes... :D

I agree #### the ads. As a neutral fan of the game not tied to either team all I cared about was a close exciting game and that is what we got. I did not want Seattle to repeat (mission accomplished) but the price of not seeing a repeat was that Darth Vader (Bill Belichick) and his protegee Luke Skywalker (Tom Brady) are champs for the 4th time now. Next season I will definitely be adopting an "Anybody but the Patriots" stance.

Back to the game, it was a bad call for sure. But you win and lose as a team (including the play calls from the sidelines). Football is a game of deception. A game where you try to do the opposite of what the other teams thinks you will do. As logical as it seemed to run with Lynch, it's all part of the chess game and if that pass was anything other than the interception, Seattle is still alive and still had a chance to be heroes. However the football Gods did not agree with the call and now Seattle's coaching staff are goats. I bet Vince Lombardi rolled over in his grave on the play. Perhaps it was the Ghost of Lombardi who guided Malcolm Butler towards this pick. haha

Even if they go on to win more Super Bowls in the years to come, the Seahawks will need to wear this one forever.

so what happens now if the Patriots are found guilty of cheating in that last game with the under inflated ball?

Do they get their Superbowl title stripped from them? Does it automatically go to Seattle?

As I understand it (and I welcome correction if I'm wrong), the underinflated balls were only used in the first half. The second half was played with "good" balls. And the Patriots destroyed the Colts in the second half.

So even if they did cheat (and I believe they did) it didn't affect the final outcome of the game.

So if they are found "guilty" then they will most likely face a fine or loss of draft picks, just like last time.
Perhaps a game or two suspension for Brady or Belichick.

At least that's what the press is saying.

I think if you look at fumble stats before 2006 and after 2006 for the Patriots you might see an interesting trend.

In 2006 Brady was one of the big voices lobbying the NFL to allow each team to bring their own footballs.

I doubt this was a one off mistake.

No kidding.

IIRC, the Pats were busted for improper use of a video camera on the sidelines at a Packer game in Green Bay a couple years before they finally got sanctioned for it. It wasn't reported to the NFL and the footage wasn't confiscated. They just made the guy stop.
