I'm surprised the FAA allowed him to fly the airplane. There has been lots of grief over that last several years just keeping the US built warbirds in the air.

Well, he did fly one operationally which would be a different story than say myself trying to hop in one and go. There probably aren't a lot of people who can say they flew old warbirds operationally (and can still pass a flight physical). He also flew as a test pilot, which I think lends some credibility to his ability to handle military aircraft.

I think Art is a better judge of his abilities than anyone in the FAA. No bureaucrat ever got fired for saying "no".
