"Carl Boenish is the godfather of BASE jumping. He literally came up with the name, which is an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth.

As an engineer who gave up his stable—but otherwise landlocked—life to become a full-time skydiver and filmmaker, Carl was jumping off of cliffs and mountains just as a boom of skyscraper construction erupted in Los Angeles, in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

To share his predilection for freefalling with the world, Carl wore a helmet-mounted 16mm camera for the majority of his jumps, which allowed him to capture stunning and incredibly colorful footage of his death-defying feats."

Just saw the movie last night.... Yep, that was Carl. They did a nice job of portraying a legend/innovator in our sport and BASE.

This part is funny or not....

Did you skydive while making this film?
That is the single most-asked question, which is fine. I did, I did skydive. But I have a background in rock climbing, and I grew up in Oregon rock climbing, so I don’t really have a lot of issues about heights. And actually, I thought the scariest part was going up in the airplane, because they’re really mechanically not well maintained, a lot of the drop zones. But I enjoyed it very much. I haven’t been BASE jumping, because it takes a lot of skill, so it’s not something you just kind of go out and do.

Not great to have this guy say that about our aircraft and it's good to know you can just go jump out of a plane with no skill. Maybe there should be tandem base jumps for everyone to enjoy.....

I posted this in a different thread but will also put here...

In order to be seen in more theaters then it needs to do well in the theaters listed. It's how smaller films get into more theaters. It's actually pretty extraordinary that it was picked up by larger companies. Universal, Magnolia Pictures and CNN films bought partial rights so they are in charge of what theaters it's shown in(mainly Landmark to start) and how it's distributed. Magnolia get first dibs at placing the film in the US, then it will be shown in select theaters in other countries, probably starting in Norway since they had a large part in production and have money into it. After it makes the rounds in smaller theaters worldwide then CNN Films will be showing it on their platform and then it will be available On Demand and DVD.
I would suggest seeing it on the big screen so as to experience the full effect of the awesome footage both from Carl and the new shots in Norway and it will also help to show that more markets can support the film.

Maybe contacting Magnolia Pictures might do some good trying to get it in certain theaters or finding Landmark Theaters and contacting them and telling them to contact Magnolia to get the film.... Or talk to Mark Cuban since he owns Landmark and Magnolia.

I saw it last night with my skydiving wife and friend. It was very good!

If you started in the 70s/80s it's a must-see in my opinion. The writer/director did a very good job with what looked to me to be, a pretty challenging project. Lots of good video from back in the day. Jean Boenish comes across as very likeable and very admirable. Seems like a good egg. Great music and a good ending. A good movie for the sport.

A bunch of us skydivers (and some BASE jumpers) saw it at the SF premiere Friday night, where the director gave a Q & A at the end. Of course, I think most of the questions were from skydivers/BASE jumpers, but there was a comment/question from a whuffo lady who just got curious and came and stated how the story made the sport "appealing" to her (or should I say, understandable to her why they did it). Another thumbs up here.
