wolfriverjoe 1,340 #1 June 28, 2016 Pat Summit died this morning. She was diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's in 2011, retired in 2012. Winningest coach in D-1 Basketball of all time. By all accounts, a classy lady. It's not in the linked story, but I saw an interview a while back that she was most proud of the fact that every one of her players who completed all four years of eligibility graduated. 100% graduation rate."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." BillyVance 34 #4 June 29, 2016 As one of the other respected women's college basketball coaches also said about Pat, "She was our John Wooden". 8 national titles. Tennessee became the first women's basketball blue-blood program, that everybody strived to be like. She started at age 22 when Tennessee basically had nothing. There were no NCAA tournaments for women's basketball then. Wouldn't start until she reached her 10th year as the Vols' coach. What she did, coaching for 40 years with class and integrity, is unmatched. Rest easy Pat..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
wmw999 2,120 #5 June 29, 2016 Besides the 100% graduation rate, her overall record was 1098-208. Imagine having a 28-5 record -- every year for 40 years. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. There won't be another like that. Unless Geno Auriemma surpasses that. He's gone 955–134 in 31 years. That's a 31-4 clip per year. I don't know what his players' graduation rate is, but I doubt its 100%."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
