How did you know you were ready for AFF?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I need some advice. After wanting to skydive for many years, I finally did it last weekend. WOW!!!! I can't even explain how incredible it was. It was so peaceful. I was in a great mood all week and I just can't stop thinking about it. I'm very interested in AFF, but feel like I want to do one more tandem skydive first to make sure I'm ready. How did you guys get started? Did you go straight into AFF or did you ease into it? I just had no idea what an amazing affect skydiving would have on my life. It sounds kinda of dramatic but it really changed my perspective and the way I see the world.

Welcome to the forums! :)
Some dropzones offer a training program that incorporates tandems for the first few jumps as training jumps. Check to see if your dropzone offers that, it might make your decision easier. Good luck!

Welcome :)

For me, I went straight in at AFF - i'm nearing the end of my course and hoping to have my license pretty soon. I haven't done a tandem, part of me is curious to do one though.

a 2nd tandem is a great idea - by the sounds of it you're pretty convinced already, and i think you'll be even more convinced to do AFF after a 2nd tandem :)

Enjoy!

How do you know if you are ready for AFF? An easy way to tell is if you start threads on DZ.com like this...

I did a tandem and when I got down, I confused everyone by being a bit "Meh!" about the experience :D

I liked some bits, didn't like others. I wasn't terrified and kissing the ground grateful to still be alive but I wasn't euphoric and desperate to do it again either. So my instructor and my then boyfriend told me I needed to do it by myself to really be able to decide. So I signed up for AFF level 1 (was able to pay for each level as I did it) and a few weeks later, I finally understood what all the fuss was about B|

AFF was a very emotional journey for me and when I got my A licence, I wasn't at all sure I would continue. I've persevered after considering quitting several times but I know I will never be an obsessive skydiver. It is an amazing thing to be able to fly though :)
