miller 0 #1 June 2, 2004 Wings W-19 w/ Raven 218 I've packed it about four different ways but the owner keeps reporting back that the riser covers come open on the ground, just from him wearing it. He is the original owner. It was made for him. I've packed the reserve according to the manufacturer's recommendations. I've stuffed the hell out of the ears. I've left the ears almost completely empty. I've checked that he's stowing the risers correctly. Nothing seems to work Any real world advice? No, I haven't contacted the manufacturer yet. I pack about 6 different Wings pretty regularly, and this is the only one that I've had a problem with. BTW, some of the different sizes tend to end up with a crease right through each ear. In fact, I've even seen this on a few different photos actually in Sunrise's own ads, and many non-ad related photos. Any advice with this? Thanks, Mike
PhreeZone 16 #2 June 2, 2004 When you are setting the sunflaps how much pressure are you applying to them? I had someone show me the trick of setting them really deep and rolling lots of the ears in after setting the first two flaps. Then using the packing paddle we made the center cavity larger by pushing the material towards the outside leaving a larger cavity. We also bent the tops of the ears on the cavity side towards the outside more and it worked. That seemed to firm up the pack job, allowed the PC to sit cleaner and with the deep tapered ears the flaps tucked in really nicely. YMMV.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
skygod7777 0 #3 June 4, 2004 i would say if you pack 5 other wings that come out fine every time, and dont' have any problems then i would say the rig may be built slightly incorrectly, maybe a bit small for the guy, or the cut is wrong for the riser flaps. i would call ankie at sunrise and talk to her to see what she says, she may pass you on to someone else, or have a quick answer for you. later
freeflajankie 0 #4 June 4, 2004 Hey, You don't want to leave the ears "empty" In the wings you want the fabric to be more even then say for a Javelin. Don't stuff too much in the bottom of the container. Try to make it even and fill up the ears. Although you don't want too much up in the ears either. If you still have problems you can contact me at 813-788-1910 AnkieSkydivers are a bunch of insensitive jerks... And that's why I don't skydive anymore!
