Rebecca-Berlin 0 #1 April 2, 2008 Hi There! The good news is after 5 years in the sport I have finally registered at dropzone.com. This is my first-ever post. The bad news is the reason I joined is because my rig was stolen 5 days ago and I want to inform as many skydivers and riggers as possible, so if the thieves try to sell it, they will be caught red-handed (and tied by their ankles and left hanging over a base-jump exit point till they pee in their pants and become monks). So, first off, a warm hello to everyone here. My main interest is formation skydiving. For over two years I have been trying to get a team up and running but people keep quitting, so our turnover rate has been high. Right now we are on the verge of recruiting our fourth member so we can start serious training soon. Wish me luck on both accounts (rig and team)! BillyVance 34 #3 April 2, 2008 Post your stolen gear description in the Gear and Rigging forum so that more people will be aware of it. Good luck. I know how it feels. Rebecca-Berlin 0 #4 April 2, 2008 Hi Sky-Mama, The rig was in a parked car in front of an indoor climbing center. Someone destroyed the car window and reached in and grabbed it. The climbing gym, www.magicmountain.de, later said that they have at least 3 thefts a year but do not warn their customers because they are afraid this will scare them away. They do not even have a sign warning you not to leave valuables in the car. Their parking lot is not insured and, unfortunately, not guarded. Now I realize I should have left the rig at the reception. It was just a series of bad decisions, starting with the rigger saying he would bring the gear with the repacked reserve to the gym Friday night so that I could jump Saturday morning. I just should have said no to that offer because it was clear I would be climbing for 3 hours and had no place to put it. I could kick myself, daily. I miss my rig. And I don't want to spend that huge amount of money again for a new one. Thanks for asking. I think about nothing else 24 hours a day. Right now I'm at work and it's all I can do to not tell anyone my plight. They think I'm crazy anyway because I skydive. If they knew the amount of money I just lost they would give me a jester's hat (or an asylum jacket) and place me in the corner. RB
Rebecca-Berlin 0 #5 April 3, 2008 HI Billy, I posted the details in stolen gear 24 hours ago, but it hasn't appeared yet. I'll wait another day, and then fill out the stolen gear forms again. Maybe I did something wrong. RB
JohnRich 4 #6 April 3, 2008 QuoteThe rig was in a parked car in front of an indoor climbing center. Someone destroyed the car window and reached in and grabbed it... Their parking lot is not insured... Your own auto insurance will probably cover the theft. Call your agent and ask. Read your policy first so that you understand the terms, and can answer his questions properly, so as not to exclude your coverage.
Rebecca-Berlin 0 #7 April 4, 2008 Thanks JohnRich, but the problem was that it was stolen out of my girlfriend's car and she doesn't have theft insurance. I do not own a car. I ask friends to take me to the dropzone (because I spent my money on a rig instead!!!). We have looked into all the insurance possibilities and they have all said no. Sad but true. harryskydives 0 #8 April 8, 2008 I do not know about insurance in Germany, or Texas for that matter. But here your home owners or renters insurance would cover that kind of loss, not your auto insurance.. Any way I hope you find your gear. Some crack head stole some gear from the trunk of a teammates car. The gear was recovered when they tried to sell it a nearby dropzone. Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time... Rebecca-Berlin 0 #9 April 8, 2008 When I read your email, at the bottom of the page was a google ad for a car anti-theft alarm! LOL!Believe me, I filled out the insurance form the night of the theft, but they sent me a letter saying my renters insurance didn't cover it. I can only hope the fools try to sell it at one of the two near-by dropzones, because they were notified immediately. One of them had just done the repack. Today I gave the police all the Serial Numbers and more photos. They said they are watching Ebay (as are all my skydiver friends) but can't do much more. I like stories about recovered gear. They give me hope.

virgin-burner 1 #11 April 9, 2008 are you sure its not covered by your "hausrats-versicherung"!? dont really know about the situation in germany regarding insurances, but to my knowledge, that really should be covered. call and ask again! maybe you just had a douchebag on there..“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Rebecca-Berlin 0 #12 April 9, 2008 Hey Virgin, It really does say on their website that I would have had to pay extra to have auto theft covered: http://www.hamburg-mannheimer.de/NR/exeres/FF1A3EF4-6AE9-4113-8D1E-5E0C5B72E1DA,frameless.htm But worse than that, when I talked to their office, they said they would have only covered the theft if the rig were in the trunk. And my girlfriend had put it (in the gearbag) on the passenger seat. Also it is a grey area as to how many hours after 10 pm auto theft is covered. I have heard from others that you can only leave your rig in your car 4 hours during the day and 2 hours during the night in order to be within the standard auto theft coverage. We left it in the car for 3 hours while climbing. So, pretty much any coverage would have said no for these 2 reasons.
virgin-burner 1 #13 April 9, 2008 mhm, sorry to hear, but it really seems your insurance-company is one fucked up bunch. hope you get your rig back. maybe check www.ricardo.ch as well for it!? its gotta be real bad karma to take a rig from someone. but being the small community we are, i'm pretty sure it turns up sooner or later. did you talk to teardrop? make sure they know you're missing it too!“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Rebecca-Berlin 0 #14 April 9, 2008 I sent Thomas Sports an Email saying I needed the SN and DOM because it was stolen. I didn't specifically ask them to take note, but maybe they wrote it down somewhere in their records.
