Hey all..last year I did 5 aff jumps but due to family pressure both negative and positive (half the family thought I would kill myself the other half wanted to know when I was going to strap on a boogie board and do some tricks lol) i gave it up sure I could find something that would give me that rush without freaking out the family but guess what nothing does. Instead I have spent the last year gazing fondly at the sky and wishing I could experience the beauty and the thrill of having the earth rushing up at you as you get closer to the ground not to mention the totally awesome canopy ride back down. there is just no part of skydiving that isn't awesome (except the plane ride which I hate) so anyway, I have found a DZ further away to do the aff course, (the one I was jumping from was just down the street) and I am not telling anyone in the family till I am done! wish me luck and btw anyone else here have a problem with family pressure?

hi, deb! welcome back to "skydiving family" who is certainly not putting pressure on you-maybe that compensates the other pressure. wish you good luck and success at your aff, but especially much fun in spite of the pressure you´re putting on yourself by doing it secretely.
my familiy also doesn´t accept me jumping out of planes or helicopter (although I´ve only done tandems ´til now ... but that´s another story...); my son even mocks at my addiction whenever I look up to the sky.
btw: what do you mean with "playing with the grandchilds" in your profil?

Family is a hard one to convince.... lol

This is what I will do. Trick them to go to the airport with you (blindfolded) to do a tandem jump to let them feel how you feel. (Even know if they scream all the way down.;)lol)

well anyway good luck with your family!

GL+BS,
Chad;)

thanks mdbambi I appreciate the support and what in meant in my profile by 'playing with the grandchilds' is that I cant speak proper english lol (let me change that)I meant to say grandchildren I have 4 which is one reason I get a lot of flack some of my family think I am being irresponsible by doing something like this at my age but I am only 43! I have been told that I owe it to my children and grandchildren to be there for them and not to go get myself killed but most of them know nothing about skydiving, they only hear of it when once in a blue moon there is a story on the news about an injury or fatality. Another reason they worry is that I tend to be a bit clumsy at times but not once have I tripped over a cloud...although I never landed on my feet either!:$

Let's see I started skydiving at 47. I can't believe now that I waited for so long to finally take the plunge. My daughter is the reason why I finally started. She had made a couple of Tandem jumps and told me I should go ahead and make one myself. Well she scheduled it and I was hooked from then on. I just finished AFF 3 weeks ago and am enjoying every jump I make. Just can't believe I waited so long to finally jump. There was a guy at the DZ this weekend that is 77 years old and he still loves it.

Hey Chuteme,

Congrats on your return!

As far as the family goes; I just did not tell them, what they don't know, they won't have to worry/comment about.

You may think this kind of harsh, but bear in mind, years ago I got banged up pretty bad. Members of my family actually threatened my life if I ever jumped again.

Well, I'm a big boy, what they don't know, won't hurt them.

You've got to draw your own lines. However it works out, have fun! In time, they will come around. . . .

thanks for your support everyone.....ground school monday, I am starting all over again and going to try to get through it in a couple of weeks. Since I have done Levels 1-4 once already and did okay, I think I can get through it rather quickly...then I'll tell the family.:D
