surf4life11 0 #1 June 18, 2003 I just started my skydiving life in March of this year with Missouri River Valley Skydiving. Cannot wait for this weekend when I get to jump again. This whole student thing sucks but I know it is for safety and learning purposes which makes it worth it but I cannot wait until I can jump my own rig and not have to worry about all th restrictions of being a student. lfhower 0 #2 June 18, 2003 Don't worry, the student thing passes quickly. Welcome to the addiction! By the way, is MRVS open during the week, or is it weekends only? Always remember, when you get where you're going, there you are!
surf4life11 0 #3 June 18, 2003 Ya addiction is the best word for it. MRVS is open mostly weekends but the DZO does open it up during the week for special occasions or if you get enough people together for a few good loads. All a person can do is ask. The way things are going right now I should be done with student status by the end of July (hopefully)!

juanesky 0 #8 June 19, 2003 Welcome Dan, and blue skies!. Don't worry about the amount of jumps, enjoy each one of them, keep on learning and be safe. juanesky 0 #9 June 19, 2003 Hello Betsy, Those dates seem very nice to get away for the NE weather. I have always had the impression the Eloy has the best skydiving weather in the continental US. I have been in 9 different dropzones, but for what I read, there is definitely no place better to train and learn with some of the legends in the sport. Just one question, is it true that under canopy the fall rate is a lot faster in there? If so, could you explain why? Take care and blue skies!"According to some of the conservatives here, it sounds like it's fine to beat your wide - as long as she had it coming." -Billvon

MonkeyLip 0 #11 June 19, 2003 Welcome, and congrats on that first altitude jump. I was at MRVS for about 8 months before moving to Raeford. It is a great place and the people there are a lot of fun to be around. Stay safe and keep skydivin. Lipblic, blic, caw,caw
Scottyb 0 #12 June 19, 2003 Hi & welcome, having just finished my level 7 jump after 10 months, it did at the time seem to take forever but every jump was a learning experience. There is so much to learn in this sport that you only seem to be able to learn from doing it. Listen to your instructors and try to absorb everything you can. I can't wait to be a better skydiver but the only way is through our own experience and the the experience of our instructors and other seasoned skydivers. Enjoy every minute of skydiving no matter what you status is. Blue skies

hmatousek 0 #14 June 19, 2003 Welcome!!! I know how you feel about being a student. It really can suck at times but learn all you can and don't ever stop. I started jumping last year and now have close to 100 jumps and I am still learning a ton of info. The great thing about this sport is that we are always students in one way or another. Just when you think you've got everything you need in one discipline yourself or someone else starts changing the rules. I strongly believe that we will never stop learning in this sport. Blue skies! freeflyfrog 0 #15 June 19, 2003 Quote Just one question, is it true that under canopy the fall rate is a lot faster in there? If so, could you explain why? Hey Juanesky... As a former AZ jumper, I can tell you why the descent rate is higher under canopy. It's because the field elevation at Eloy is 1513' MSL... I see you jump near Boston, so you are used to jumping at probably not much higher than Sea Level itself. The combination of the higher elevation and the hotter, dryer air (something about density altitude... ask your local diver driver ) makes canopy flight a bit zippier. Definitely noticeable. If you go to Eloy (or any nonfamiliar DZ for that matter), use your first couple of jumps to fly conservatively and get used to the differences in canopy flight... especially flaring. And Eloy does have the best skydiving weather... but the Summer is a bit 'warm' for most people... Ciao!
surf4life11 0 #16 June 19, 2003 I see you are from Gold Coast Skydiving. I will be in Mississippi sometime later this year how far away from Biloxi are you located? I will be in biloxi for about 2 weeks and of course by that time should be off student status so I cannot go 2 weeks without jumping. Thanks to all for all the advice, I know skydiving is a constant learning process but tell me if there is a better way to learn out there. Blue skies everybody! skymama 35 #17 June 19, 2003 Welcome to the forums! I haven't heard of your dz before, so I'm glad you're around to bring a new perspective from your neck of the woods. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
surf4life11 0 #18 June 19, 2003 It is a relatively small DZ owned and operated by the DZO. The airport is 100% dedicated to skydiving but it is quite a nice DZ with 160 acres of unobstructed landing area. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Welcome! and Congrats on your 1st jump. Student status does seem to take awhile but it's worth it. Patience is the key! I think Moss Point is only like 30 miles from Biloxi. I've been there a couple times before & it's a cool DZ that offers beach jumps sometimes too.~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts!
