kwmontreal 0 #1 April 1, 2004 Hi All, I know that many of us who wear full face helmets have fogging problems. I wear a Havok and I hope that someone here has what I need (yes I know I can flip up the lense, but that kind of defeats the purpose). I would like to make a couple different lenses using various sizes of closed cell foam tape. Therein lies the problem. What I am looking for is the double sided foam tape like they use in ski goggles, but about 3/16" or about 4mm. The foam should be closed cell to avoid any air transmition. I am not looking for a handout. Just looking for a product that seems hard to find. If anyone has some of this, or know where it can be had, please let me know. I would welcome input, especially if you have attempted to do this. Jump Safe. Kent----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE! Nightingale 0 #2 April 1, 2004 hmm... I found something similar at home depot. Look in the "weatherproofing" area.
kwmontreal 0 #3 April 1, 2004 I'll checkout a couple more or different Home Depot type places. Most of the foam I have seen to date is either too "spongy", or too thick, or too thin ( I gotta stop reading those kids books). The search continues! Thanks.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE!
Nightingale 0 #4 April 1, 2004 did you try asking them? I've had home depot order some pretty odd stuff for me.

headoverheels 330 #7 April 1, 2004 Are you going to make a double-pain lens, like ski goggles? Done as they do it, it should work great with regard to not fogging.
kwmontreal 0 #8 April 1, 2004 Yes it will be a double lense exactly like a ski goggle .... if I can find the right foam. I just hate to flip up the visor as it really cuts down on vision and head mobility. I have not (knock on wood) face planted, but, if the occasion arrises it would be nice to have the visor down! I hate the fogging!! I did email Bonehead and they are mailing me a new antifog product to try. I really don't think it will help ... been there ,done that! Jump Safe! AlvaroCarvalho 0 #9 April 2, 2004 Hello! I know they're made for lenses (Camera)use...but has anyone tried Cat Crap? Cheers, Hey...ho...let's go!

I have not (knock on wood) face planted, but, if the occasion arrises it would be nice to have the visor down! Two advantages to the Z1, if it fits your head. Visor flips all the way up so it doesn't block your view, and the chin stays in place all the time (a disadvantage in many situations too). kwmontreal 0 #11 April 2, 2004 I chose the havok as I wear glasses and the Z1 just didn't work. I love the helemt (and the "Vader" look), but would like to try this. Hopefully I'll post in the near future and it will help others to do the same. Jump Safe. skynugget 0 #12 April 2, 2004 in reply to ur lense fogging you can do one of 2 things (a) make a new lense which is costly and could be problematic. Or you can (b) before you jump take a potato and rub it on the inside of your helmet lense. after you saturate ur lense simply buff clear! i know this because snowmobile racicers use this merthod to prevent fogging on the trail! hope you find this useful BLUE SKIES! akarunway 1 #13 April 2, 2004 Contact a wholesale sign supplier in your area. They have some serious double sided tape used in the manufacture of signs . The 3M foam stuff at Home Depot is good but you can get almost paper thin stuff thats damn near like super glue from the sign Co's. Tubelite is the biggun in the sign industry and they have a Ca. locationI hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all. darkwing 5 #14 April 2, 2004 I have had a Havok for a few hundred jumps, and I live in a fog-prone area. If I apply the anti-fog solution every weekend I have zero fog problems. If I skip a week or two, I have fog. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
seal_S49 0 #15 April 2, 2004 QuoteYes it will be a double lense exactly like a ski goggle .... if I can find the right foam. Are you planning on making a double lens assembly by fastening 2 lenses together? My ski goggles are made this way w/ foam that has adhesive on both sides. If so, weather stripping foam tape may not work because it usually has adhesive on one side only. 3M makes a double-stick foam tape I use on my helmet cam and I bought my last roll of it at Radio Shack. I use it in many applications and it has great adhesion.

Clownburner 0 #17 April 2, 2004 The new Bonehead anti-fog works very well! I was impressed. Cat crap doesn't work, um, at all. After doing a few interesting 4-ways where I couldn't see out the helmet, I gave up on that completely. :-) But I too have wondered why no one seems to make a thermal dual-layer lens like the one you describe. I thought about doing it myself but got lazy after the bonehead anti-fog worked for me. I was going to use clear silicone adhesive instead of closed-cell foam; it's much easier to get into the exact shape you need and will prevent any air transmission at all. You have to put foam spacers around the outside until it dries though.7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
BBKid 0 #18 April 2, 2004 Not sure if you can get them in the states, but look out for these. My motorbike lid has never fogged up with one of these fitted (as long as you fit it right), and I live in cold, cold Britain. Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!" mattsplat 0 #20 April 2, 2004 You also might want to try a paintball store. Very popular for war games being that your not alloud to take off your goggles during the game.
kwmontreal 0 #21 April 3, 2004 JW, I am not refering to ground fog , Fogging inside the lense of the helmet from breathing. Jumping at temps of 15F is ok in freefall, but, the first breath under canopy and its" I didn't see this cloud in freefall". Cloudburner, Great suggestion, I may just end up doing just that if my search for foam is un eventfull. Nugget, Trying to find a more permenant solution. I like my potatos fries with gravey and curd cheese (poutine, for thoes who like it). AKArunway, I will check out our sign supplier we use here at work. I fear that it will be like carprt tape and be too thin. Darkwing, I hope the new antifog from Bonehead works. I'll need a temp solution until I get this deal ironed out. SEAL S49, Never thought of radio shack. Thanks. Thanks for all the input. I'll let you know how things work out. If I find that my experiment works out well, I will have pics and instructions posted here in the near future. Jump Safe!
