FYI: Driving to Bridge Day

Recommended Posts

Whatever you do, don't get pulled over in VA!

Traffic patrols have long been known as roving tax collectors.
But in Virginia, they really are collecting taxes.

Starting July 1, an array of traffic offenses, from expired licenses
to speeding, come with a "civil remedial fee" attached. That means
a motorist convicted of reckless driving (75 mph in a 55 zone would
qualify) faces not only a fine of up to $2,500 and a year in jail, but
a non-negotiable $350-a-year tax for three years. The law forbids
judges from waiving or reducing the fee.

Drunken driving? A fee of $1,000 a year for three years, plus fines
and court costs. No insurance? That's $300 a year for three years,
plus fines.

Let's do a cost-benefit analysis here:

What is fee if caught fleeing from the police?

Imagine the triple wammy: driving drunk while driving 20 mph over the speed limit without any insurance.

It's also important to note that Radar Detectors are illegal in VA & getting caught with one carries a pretty steep fine.

FURTHER, this only applies to VA residents as the state does not think it could enforce the fines in another state.

I read that on AOL news a day or more ago.

talking about police tickets, just got one this morning, 35 km/h over speed limit on the highway service lane... Got out of the highway and didnt break for the 50 km/h speed limit, just pressed on clucht.

but on the ticket, there's a big mistake made by the police officer, time of infraction states it was made at 8h35am, while I wasn't even gone from home, and in reality, was made at 8h50am. Can I argu in court with this?

thx!
