looking for cheapest east coast us to kuala lumpur, any method acceptable.

is the train service relativley easy to decipher ala eurail, or more amtrak? thanks for response.

It's very easy. The train from Singapore-KL (at least when I rode it) was pretty cheap, because it's primarily intended to bring Malaysian labor into Singapore.

Do check into getting a commuter flight (tickets can be purchased in the airport), though. At one point, they were very cheap (much cheaper than purchasing them from a computer in the US).

I would think $1600 round-trip to be quite reasonable from the east coast.

I did the KL-Singapore train too and it was very nice and convenient. I went with 1st class tickets and only paid about 65 malaysian ringits (night train was about double the price, but you got a nice bed and a small breakfast). It took about 7 hours.
