tahoejonny 0 #1 April 25, 2006 Made my first ski BASE under calm winds, blue skies and the blessing of the Lord. Met a bunch of cool jumpers, hung out with some great friends and had a really swell time. It was so cool how the Forest service pointed out a better exit point than the one we initially built. Not only was it my first ski BASE, but I got a lesson in animal biology as well, learning about the falcons that live in the cliffs that we were jumping over and that as long as we were not jumping over the no climb zone and 30 feet away from the cliff wall on deployment that we had the Forest Services blessing. They wanted to watch! Although I didnt see any forest service out there the second day, I would like to personally thank them for being so understanding and willing to take the time to help make this event such a huge success. Thanks! And to however alerted the Forest Service to this event, iT. wA.s you, that didnt narc us out but helped us solidify oversla as a great place to ski base. Viva la Apooopa. 60+ jumps made, first ever snowlerbade base jump and no injuries! Thank YOu, Thank You, Thank You Thank Thank You!
avenfoto 0 #2 April 25, 2006 well how bout that? them reckless immature yahoos out west held an event, AND nobody got hurt? maybe them internet antics really dont mean shit.... but, im out of here, because apoopa is a four letter word, 'roun hur... gnar gnar in the pow pow...RAD
nicrussell 0 #3 April 25, 2006 Quote iT. wA.s Is there a particular reason the letters T, and A were capitilized. Do you have actual evidence, or is this speculation? Glad you had fun, glad you learned something. But to add a little meandering subtle attack, er suggestion of attack, to the end, rather childish. JackDoffdonner 0 #4 April 25, 2006 What's childish is the fact that a base jumper, of all people, narked these guys out to the Forest Service! Unbelievable! You're proof will be when this entire thread gets deleted. Glad the event all worked out for the better though.
cornishe 0 #5 April 25, 2006 forest service doest have policy against base jumping. theres nothing to narc about. if you dont have any proof, dont make accusations. you end up looking like a liar and ruining your own reputation. im glad you all had fun at the event. did jesse win the butt eating contest????? just kidding, dont cry. -amAbbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
JackDoffdonner 0 #6 April 25, 2006 Wrong. There is a falcon closure area that tried to nail us on. That is the issue not forest service land. Didn't need any proof either.
nicrussell 0 #7 April 26, 2006 If this thread gets deleted that is in no way proof that Tom called in the rangers to stop the event. It might be that a concerned wild life watcher is concerned with falcon habitat and didn't want to confront a larger group of guys that huck themselves off of cliffs on skis. Could be a lttle intimidating. Maybe the FS reads these forums when they are having sleepovers at NPS rangers houses and saw that the well advertised (in dates and spec. sites) that they took it upon themselves to check out what the fuck people are doing out there. You guys need to bring a little more to the table, in terms of proof, in order to seem credible. Tom has his faults, yes he is not perfect. Neither are you, and I know for a fact I really am not. Did Tom call them in on you, I seriously doubt it. Bottom line: Bring the Proof. Nic Russell
kslay 0 #8 April 26, 2006 yea it must have been a concerned birdwatcher...that would explain why the forest service got there before most of the jumpers in the morning, and before anyone even started gearing up to hike. Thats a smart theory. But it doesnt even matter, because it was probably the raddest event ever, the forest rangers were super nice, and the locals enjoyed watching. So, if someone did narc on us, it backfired on them completely, and that makes me completely overjoyed with happiness. I hope whoever did this loses sleep at night thinking about how much of a failure they are.

nicrussell 0 #18 April 26, 2006 It was just another theory, like yours, smart or not. I do like my second theory the best. The one in which the apoopa event (which I have zero problem with, and actually wanted to attend) was thoroughly advertised/announced, or whatever. Forrest service wants to know they come out. TomAiello 26 #19 April 26, 2006 QuoteSo...why did you contact the authorities? Or if you didn't, why don't you say something in the lines of "I didn't do it"? I didn't do it. I'll try to write a longer post in a bit, explaining a bit of the background. Basically, Miles is upset that I met with some folks at CSI about his "Taste of BASE" (where he was going to chuck off all comers for $55 a pop), so he's taken to some relatively childish tactics like tearing bumper stickers off my car when it's parked at the bridge and inventing this little fable.-- Tom Aiello [email protected] SnakeRiverBASE.com
TomAiello 26 #20 April 26, 2006 The irony here is stunning. You guys have been bitching at me for well over a year, and getting upset when I remove the name of this site from the forums. You have repeatedly posted it in ALL CAPS, and have gone so far as to make death threats ("Tom, I'm going to kill you and do weird things to your body") when I continued removing the site name. I tried very hard to warn you guys that posting site names and locations (your crowd also posted driving directions to get there) on the internet is not a good idea. Now, your repeated postings have gotten you some attention from the land managers (who apparently read about your event from a posting made by the organizers on this forum), so, of course, since it was on this forum it's "all Tom's fault." Come on guys, step up and take a little responsibility. I was not the one who posted about this event, nor about this site. I tried very hard to keep the site information off the internet. Now you want to point the finger at me for the fact that people read about this on a public forum? Grow up. Really.-- Tom Aiello [email protected] SnakeRiverBASE.com
JackDoffdonner 0 #21 April 26, 2006 Oh Miles had absolutely nothing to do with any of this. Don't just assume that it is him like we are assuming that you were the nark. Gee this is fun! Don't ya think!
TomAiello 26 #22 April 26, 2006 QuoteOh Miles had absolutely nothing to do with any of this. Having (a) spoken to people who heard this story directly from him, here at the bridge, and (b) just gotten off the phone with him, I'm going to have to disagree with you on that.-- Tom Aiello [email protected] SnakeRiverBASE.com
tahoejonny 0 #23 April 26, 2006 Oh they read the threads allright, but do you really think the land managers/ forest service are montoring the forums on this site. They got better things to do! Someone specifically told them about the thread, and to check it out or sent them an email with the thread. Not only were they waiting, they were really concerned about us bringing fireworks which was in the thread that got blocked. BOTTOM LINE, SOMEONE TOLD and as childish as some of our antics are we arent trying to sabatoge our own endevors!
avenfoto 0 #24 April 26, 2006 "Tom, I'm going to kill you and do weird things to your body" was a humorus thread,(however shortlived) made entirely in jest by jimmyh... i thiught that was apparent... until it divulged into actions of the past, by particular persons, then it immediatley dissapeared... "a comic book with a dictator over the buttons.." i heard that somewhere.. and.. hypothetically.. if one wanted to "teach someone a lesson" about site naming on the internet, well what better way than to forward that information to the afflicted parties... not pointing any fingers here, but this is starting to devolve into the same tired good/"ethical" jumper vs. the badboy/"unethical" jumper bullshit that never really goes away around here... somebody once said... "i guess it boils down to which tom are you? the tomtom's or the nontoms..." me personally? i dont really give a shit, i just like to jump.
TomAiello 26 #25 April 26, 2006 Quote...they were really concerned about us bringing fireworks... Perhaps that was why they came out to watch, then? Quote...which was in the thread that got blocked. That thread is still on the forum, and can be read by anyone, without logging in. Click here and you can read it. It's also still on the BLiNC forum here, which is also accessible to the public. The counters show that it has been read 426 times on BLiNC and 2487 times on Dropzone.com. That's quite a few people who might have heard about it.-- Tom Aiello [email protected] SnakeRiverBASE.com
