V1 x AF = minuteman?

Recommended Posts

Hello,
Yo Jeb, I sent a PM, need help please.
Anyone else with experience doing wingsuit in Venezuela?
Suddenly I have to go down there on Friday.:)
God bless you.

No one on the last trip in Dec. jumped a wingsuit. Jo hendrik from Norway had his but didn't get to make a second jump which would have been the wingsuit flight. I think it's something like 4000ft total elevation you can get if you make it to the river. It would make the landing a piece of cake compared to the other LZ's;)

Have fun, be safe Avery.
BTW, I hope you know that Venezuela has stopped most flights from the US.

Peace,

4k is enough tude to get mm but depends on the terrain and distance to the LZ. Recently people fly more for distance. Have fun, hope to make it out there myself one day. Eric Jones' jump from there was one of the things that started me off.

As Jason said, I brought my V1 to Angel Falls but didn't have time to use it :(
I am pretty sure you'll be able to fly back to base camp. It's 4000 feet and if you try to fly straight back to base camp you should make it. If you try and don't make it, you haven't got any options. The other people (like Jack :P) said the trees were very soft, but with many scary bugs.

My plan was not to fly back, I can do a minute long distance flight any day here (yes, I'm from Norway) so why try to get too far away from the falls. My attached picture is grabbed from the camera right after exit. My plan was to go left right after exit, fly close to the falls and play around at the tallus you see further left and then land at the normal lz. Enjoy your flight

i wanna go back... :|

Anyone know the Glide Ratio(or horizontal distance...as height is already posted) required to reach the Base Camp?

Kris.

In one of the e-mails I got before I went there it said about one mile to base camp from exit. I'm told it was done before with an old version of the wingsuit (classic?) and standing and the base camp looking up at the mountain I was sure it wouldn't be a problem.

But as I said in my previous post, when you get your chance to jump Angel Falls, I would recommend going for fun rather than distance.

For those of you who use Google Earth you can check out my attached file where I have pinpointed both the exit and the base camp. You should be able to calculate the distance based on the coordinates.

The strait distance from exit to landing is roughly 8,320ft; full elevation is about 4,000 ft. You need to achieve a glide ratio of 2.08. When you are there it looks nearly impossible. I think you are required to really get a safe average of nearly 2.5 glide ratio, considering winds & miscalculations, and knowing you must make it to the river to avoid getting hurt. Landing on those trees on a wingsuit, is not a great option.

I’m sure I can be done; you just got to fly like a champion.

Hello,
No minute @ Angel Falls for me, no wingsuit jumps at all.
(3 helicopter jumps & 4 jumps from the falls).

My observation after standing both at the exit, the river,
the pad & multiple flights around the area in the helicopter:

There is 4000 useable feet, and you could fly out over
the jungle and get all 4K, but then you‘re out over the jungle.[:/]
If you reach the river, you’re still over jungle,
and now there’s a river obstacle under you.
Going for the heli-pad is a big commitment.
Do, or not do, there is no try. Yoda.

If I had been able to make a wingsuit flight, I would
have instead taken the scenic route with the flock.
A couple of the riggers are BASE jumpers.
They both jumped GTi’s, took the scenic tour of the falls, the walls
& the cathedrals before flying out over to the upper landing area.
They got 25-30 second flights @ about 3200 feet.
Standing at the edge I could visualize a fantastic flight plan.
V1xAF may = minuteman, but I've already been to a hospital.
