A Base poem...Got any?

Recommended Posts

Standing atop of a buildings ledge,
I carefully shuffle my way to the edge.
Just a few seconds is all that lie,
Between where I am now, and where I may die.
Looking down to the asphalt below,
measuring it up, so I won’t pull too low.
“Three”…My hearts pounding, I let out a sigh.
“Two”…I ready myself, briefly closing my eyes.
“One”…My mind races as my body lets go.
“C-Ya” I lean forward and I jump down below.

In a fraction of time, your fate becomes clear –
If you don’t act right now your death is soon near.
Reach swiftly behind you, and firmly take hold,
of a fist full of nylon; throw it out and let go.
For the next few moments, you’re looking straight down,
at the spot, should something happen, where you’ll impact the ground.

The flash of your canopy is a welcome sight,
Arresting your fall, in gravity’s spite.
Grabbing your toggles, pulling them down low,
sinking it in to the earth down below.
The jump isn’t over; there is still one more task….
Get your gear in the car, hit the gas, and haul ass!

Very nice! I'm impressed. I wish I was skydiving and BASE jumping back in high school and then I wouldn't have hated poetry so much. I could have been creative with this topic!

Who saw a bridge and said lets huck it,
with a shit eating smile, he fell for a while,
Deployed, and the landing he stuck it!....

hide the truck
with any luck
we'll be over the edge
with the canopies popped
before a single car has stoped
no suicide here
no thoughts of fear
time seems to slow it's drumbeat pace
the senses delight
in this wild human flight
the adrenline flows
from the rush we have chose
we hurtle towards the planet's tight embrace
as we fall ever faster
gravity's our master
we will not go in, no not this day
the canopies open, we fly away
lost in these moments which define our lives
at death we sneer
for life we cheer

...not a poem - but still an interesting saying which is also true for B.A.S.E. jumping:

"The way to the limit leads to yourself"

not sure about the correct translation from German language ("Der Weg an die Grenze führt zu dir selbst")

always have fun

awesome job................

===========================
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting - "fcuk me what a ride!"

No, but I've choreographed a modern dance routine which expresses the same raw emotion if you'd like to see that.

First BASE

“Below,
River rages.
Behind
Leeches press on
(“Ninety Thousand celebrate
Bridge Day” the newspapers
would read.)
To see
These fearless youth
Leap.

Alone
On the rail
One cannot feel them –
The gorge beneath
(‘eight hundred and seventy-six
feet from river to road” read the
brochures)
Occupies thought
Above all.

Tunnel vision
Paralyzing thought
A deep breath –
Fear and fascination pushed away
Suspend worry
(“after all,” Kone had said,
“it’s only another skydive.”)
Leap….
Accelerate….
Exhilarate….

Steel girders rush by
And then are gone
The river sees all….
Seems all….
Is all….
Three seconds only
THWACK!
Colorful nylon explodes above
The comforting caress of the harness against
My thighs
Steadies me.

Fall arrested,
Blood calms as
Perspective returns.
Steering for the target
There’s time to notice the trees
Colorful in their autumn foliage.
Silent onlookers – so different from those above….
Not living on others’ adrenaline
Hook it
Over the white water
And come to bear on the sandbar.
Flaring –
Just right –
Tippy-toe standup.

People cheer
As you look up….
Ambulances
Unused
Line the shore.
Above
Another parachute
Blossoming
Gains their attention
As you re-enter the crowd
And look
For a place to pack.
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.
Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

Good useage of visualization.

///**A prayer before "A" jumps**\\\
--------------------------------------
Now I throw me off this mast,
I pray my canopy opens fast.
If it should "mal" and does not open,
I pray my God damn legs aint broken!
