What PC & Bridle for WS BASE

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I hope to get in to WS BASE in Norway this summer. I've read of various types of PC and bridles being used, and am not sure which to go for.

I will be using a Gargoyle with dynamic corners and a PF Prodigy or BirdMan GTi wingsuit.

I've heard of bridles 9' 11' and 13' and PC's ranging from 32" Apex Vented to 38" Apex Vented, 36" F111 etc.

My Initial thoughts were a 36" AV on a standard 9' bridle. But i'm interested in what the experienced WS BASE jumpers views are.

If WS BASE requires a longer bridle - say 11ft, is there a downside to using this for non-WS jumps too? For the minimal cost should I have both?

Finally, for the advanced suits (S3 and V1) would you increase the PC size and bridle lenght even more?

Thanks !

Hi Robi,

Thanks for your reply. I had seen the article you pointed to, and it is very informative.

However it doesn't comment on bridle length and just recommends a PC 34" - 38" (it doesn't mention vents, but I recall a previous post by you recommending vented PCs).

Should I conclude from this that a standard bridle is ok, and that PC size should be between 34" and 38" in proportion to WS size? Or is the PC size influenced by another factor or just personal preference?

Thanks - Luke

The size (weight) of the canopy should be a consideration with PC size.
I think it mentions something like that in the document Robert referred you to.

Hi Johnny,

Yes you are right, I missed that part, it says:
"ZP pilot chutes, the size depends on your canopy, between 34” – 38”"

Canopy is a Troll 245. (It does not have MDV)

So I'm going to stick with a 36" ZP Apex Vented, with light external handle.

Luke;
Trol 245;

Prodigy=9 or 10 '', PC size - 36''
GTi = same as prodigy
V1 = 10' ( if u using the PC pouch than go for 11 or 12' bridle) PC size 34-36

In general for lower objects you might consider to have 38'' as well. In general the PC's are oversized anyway.
hope this is clearing all your ???

Hello,
Something you have to consider is the size of your pouch.
Bigger PC = more pack volume.
Longer bridle = more pack volume.
Large mesh = more pack volume.

On my older velcro-closed BASE rigs, the BOC pouches are huge,
this is to accommodate the stowage of 42" to 46" PC's.
When I use them for slider-up jumps, I use a 38" PC.
Anything smaller may get lost in there.
The pin rigs I have for slider up stuff have smaller pouches.
Usually on slider-up jumps, I always use a 38" PC anyway.
So far, all the PC's I've mentioned have been with the large mesh.

(38" in BOC on Perigee Pro with GTi for BASE has been sweet!)

I have two skydiving rigs, both set up for wingsuits.
So far this year I've been playing with a lot of configurations.
Different canopies and PC's, and suits; GTi, S3, V1.......

The BASE pouches on my S3 and V1 are smaller than normal BOC,
additionally the pouches are not flexible like spandex pouches,
so Marty of Asylum Designs is making me some @ 34" with large mesh.
It's about as big as I could get without switching to small mesh.
I do not like small mesh on a BASE jump, (PC or slider).

All my bridles are now 12'.

How do you measure length? Loop to PC or pin to PC?
