Its a really nice idea. But there are place that you can not land any other place than the landing area: forest, lakes, high tention transmission, railroad, highway, town....

ok I guess I haven't seen enough reserve pilotchutes and freebags then. My old school javelin has a white one, and the only other ones I've seen was a yellow one, and another white one.
and yes, I know its not hard to keep an eye on a white pc, but if you were to cutaway above a town, it would be nice to be able to look for a landing area instead of watching your stuff all the time. besides, the orange color can't hurt.
Do the new Javelins use orange reserve pcs/freebags?

Good answer! I guess, it's a fairly good idea, but, as I mentioned, 'within safety guidelines'. If, it's not safe to do so... go-back and look for your stuff... after everyone's safe on the ground.
I haven't heard of this being taught to the newcomers.

from what I've seen, most follow the main since its more expensive to replace if lost.
personally, if I saw someone cutaway, I'd try to chase whatever they didn't.

I have 'flown' down, under canopy, to a jumper on our load who had a reserve-ride to make sure he was all-right. Luckily, the PC and free-bag had tangled with the main and with no wind, landed close-by. (This was before AAD's were used by skydivers) He stood it up in a cottonfield. I feel, it's just 'courtesy' to the jumper.
the only problem with that is that my main has a hell of a lot better glide ratio by itself then i do under my reserve and im starting out at big altitude disadvantage to begin with!

Mine has been found after sereval months with my main.
Mmm. I hope you're not going to pack it again. Several months of UV exposure to your bridal could really spoil your day come your next mal...

Eric,
The pilot chute and bag maybe but the bridle is made of cotton right?

My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
I was told that PCs are out,but I can use the freebad and the D-bag as long as they hold.

Bridle made of cotten? No.
Get it checked out. Here, under the hole in the ozone layer, with people in their teens getting melanoma - I wouldn't touch gear that's been out there for a week.
