Altitrack and S-bird

Recommended Posts

Hello there.!
This week just received my new "toy" S-bird and this sunday i did only one jump because of very high winds..:-((
I know somewhere in the forum probably will exists the answer but i didn't found any...
So,the question is WHY my Altitrack stops at 67 sec and says opening at 7800..??
I disappointed because i wanted to check the time to compare my previous suit and i didn't had a chance to do more jumps to add my camera...
The settings is SLOW and SAS...
Never had a problem before with my previous suit..
Best time was 141 sec..
Any idea or different settings etc..??
Thank you for your time.

ps:By the way..this thing going F.A.S.T ..:-0

My advice is you want to invest in a Flysight to get the best idea of your performance.

You will get some advice on how to set your alto...but nothing beats the raw data you get from a Flysight.

Great suit eh? S Bird is in my top 3 favorite suits.

Flysight is my in my future "plans" as right now Tony took my last savings..:-))))
I am curious about flight data because time is not the most important thing..next weekend I will put on my camera to check the time..in case if altitrack stops again..I didn't want to have it on my first solo jump with the S-bird
Thanks for the answers.:-)

I'm not aware of a fix.

I've had jumps in my S-Bird where Altitrack says I deployed 4 seconds after leaving the plane.
...

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

make sure you have both canopy and freefall logging turned on.
there will be a little guy in freefall and a canopy with a + between them in the left lower corner.
after a jump you can replay the whole jump all the way to the ground,
center button once then righ button 1-3 times depending on how fast you want the jump replayed.

we were justy having issues this weekend at the performance comp in zhills. the pilot would dive the plane to 10,800 after the funjumpers got out and it would trick everyones altis into thinking they were in freefall.

I agree with everyone else on the Flysight, this weekend was the first time i used one, really easy and i didnt have a failure to record. the owner of Flysight is a really nice guy too.

I have both settings enabled..:-(
The only thing that I am thinking is that I must did a GOOD job.. :-p
I mean..it was my first jump with the S,I did some practice pulls and I was a little unstable after the pulls.I remember I was stable around 8000-9000...and the altitrack records opening at 7890..
So I supposed I had a very slow fall rate and confused the altitrack..?
Another thing is the position of the alti..I have it on my left mudflap..
Is it matters?? Comparing to the wrist.?
But again I NEVER HAD any issues before.

there is your problem!!!!
altitracks dont like the mudflap positioning. try it in your pocket or armwing pouch. ive seen multiple people have problems with altitracks placed on mudflaps. i wear mine on my wrist, but on the thumb, it fits perfect and always gives accurate readings. there is a pic of me in this months parachutist on pg43 (invasion boogie) you can see how well it fits next to the gripper.

Thank you for your replies.

Any datalogger can be fooled into thinking you've deployed, particularly if you're doing something like a practice touch where everything closes, you're suddenly falling fast, and then wings are opened hard with a rapid slowing of descent.

The school has six Altitracks, and all of my personal rigs have them mounted on the mudflap with a LookMa soft mount. I also always wear an Altitrack on my wrist (two Alti's on every jump).

It is quite common for both of them to display the same information (false deployment) during practice touches or steep dive/hard flare combinations. Whether it's on a wrist or mudflap doesn't matter. Speed is speed. The burble of your body will create a slightly greater issue, but not enough to be "the cause" of the problem, IMO. Otherwise, my wrist unit would show a straight-through flight while the mudflap shows a deployment. TMK, that's never once been the case.

Since you're already in SLO mode, you might want to contact Steffen at L&B and see what information/options he has for you.

Your first instinct is likely the correct one and wrist, helmet, or mudflap, devices may be fooled. I stupidly bought an N3 because I was led to believe it wouldn't be fooled in a dive/flare. I have a lot of openings at 11,800 based on all of my dataloggers.

One thing, the Flysight isn't fooled because it doesn't work on barometric pressure.

Thanks DSE..
I had also in my mind to buy a N3 for its low profile and add it on my wrist...but now i prefer to spend the money to buy a flysight.:-))
If the weather is good i will do some jumps and I will report back.
Thank you guys.

I know a number of people that have purchase a Flysight and then did nothing useful with it. That is a shame. The Flysight gives you audio feedback, if you desire and records the flight data. But after the flight, you have to do something with the data in order to answer questions and learn from the data. Be sure you want to the information enough to put a bit of work into it and you will learn a lot.

Here is a Flysight thread with a LOT of posts.
