x2 or v4

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't that depend on what you want to get out of the suit/jumps? I am no expert but by looking at the suits it seems that X2 is "fatter" than V4 and I guess that would translate to more drag so less forward speed than the V4? Just seems like two completely different games to me. I like speed and distance so I would go for a V4! I think...

I agree. I am the proud owner of both suits, X2 21 jumps, V4 about 40. For me, and this may be personal, coming from other Phoenix-Fly suits, the V4 is way easier to fly. Precise movements to do transitions with others just work with this suit. Sharp, precise turns, dive and flare out, deploy... everything feels way easier and more natural with the V4. The X2 flies slower, seems to glide better (I get 70 seconds from 4K to 3K and know I am not at the limit yet). I (still) do not like to fly the X2 very much though and prefer the V4.

I have V4 but couple of weeks ago ordered X3. I always liked Phoenix products, and I agree that they are easier in piloting, but X2 and of course X3 MUCH powerful devices than any Phoenix wingsuit. If you intend jump at least 100-150 wingsuit jumps per year Tony will be best choise, if less I recommend V4 due to it's super easy piloting.
Also, if you don't care about distance challenges and prefer flights in groups I think V4 will be more usefull. As for me, I'm seeking more power and ready to train a lot.

Ok have done a few base jumps with me in v4 and company in x2. On pretty much all jumps x2 did not go as steep (seems the bigger arms catch you sooner whereas little arms that are quiet swept back dont give you much to fight against the oversized tail and down you go) and therefore got flying a little faster less than 50ft between them. glide was about the same with x2 able to go a little further due to having the extra few ft of atl. At first we also thaught speed was about the same, but once i began to get in the groove and fly faster it was obvious x2 is the slower suit with my buddy commenting that the faster we went the harder it was for him to fly straight and had instability that he discribed as around the yaw axis. where the faster we went the more solid and stable i felt. by this stage the x2 was also opening around the same distance which leads me to belive at top speeds the v4 has the better glide we never went so fast that it ever adversly affected our distance.
From what im seeing x2 type suits seem quicker and easier to exit with compareable handling and speed flown slow and obviously slower minimum speeds both vert and horizontal. but are at an exponentially increasing disadvantage the faster you go and more agressive you fly in all aspects handling glide and speed.

Impressive stuff if you can sustain even your existing fall rate from 12,000ft to 4000ft you can take the world record for the longest flight. Average speed for 70 secs over 1000ft descent is 9.82mph

Unless you mean metres in which case you'll still need to go to 30,000ft plus ;)

It's of course the 1000 m window of the PPC, Paralog Performance Competition. And yes, 70 sec is not impressive. Although it was rather easy to achieve with the X2 on less than 15 flights experience with it. With the V4 I was not able to get this time. A lot has been said. I would like to add: When flying with S-Bird, R-Bird majority flocks with my Phantom 2 or Ghost 3 I always get the feeling that these suits fly slower. I have to fly dirty much more than when I fly with other Phantoms. So yes, Tony WS and Phoenix-Fly suits seem to have some differences by design and across the brand range.

Own both.

Only base jumped the V4. but before based V2, V3 and phantom.

Preferred the V4 overall. Both are nice suits, the difference is speed and flying style. However for XRW, X2 is better.

Funny enough my new favorite suit; shadow.

I see the two fastest times at the WBR are actually the Frode (29:44) and Espen (29:62) both in V4's. Maybe not the winners of the race, but for sure the fastest times.

Where do you get those stats from. And how does that work? Shouldn't the fastest win a race? I don't know how the scoring of the race works.

Or were their "fast" runs in qualifying heats?

The race has qualifiers, and than after that first round puts people up against each other in pairs. Elimination style from quarter, down to half and than real finals. Its drag racing where the results depend on a combination of sense of timing, technique and judging the right angle to fly the lowest required glide to finish at maximum speed (and still get the required minimum canopy time). Its one of the few (if not only) spectator sports that we as a wingsuit discipline seem to have that's really appealing to the public.

It will be fun to see what Jebs China version of WBR (with some turns in the track, and longer flying) bring to the sport.

I remember when some people said you could not BASE jump a Tony suit. Ha ha.

Apache and v4 aren t in the same class. I don t put myself in an apache just after phantom...
16 weeks and my V4 ll be at home.

Dude, as you attached your wingsuit colouration, let me warn you against your second epic fail (the firs one was choosing V4 instead X2) ;) ....
Black&red colours are so popular that already became cliche. I think about 90% of wingsuits have very similar colouration, so it can be difficult to identify yourself in big flock. Also, neither you, no your friends in flock will not be able to fly without smiles on your faces if you will choose something like this:

As you are from France which pretty far from Russia I will not be jealous. ;)

I saw the jump form the ground and have to say that it looks completely different from the top than from the ground. Espen was flying a bit lower and do therefore lookes a lot further back on the video, but standing on the ground I would not tell who was the winner as it was so close.

You can see all the times here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150912759615868&set=a.101066005867.101470.43724640867&type=3&theater and you will see that the six fastest times are all done in Vampires.

That doesn't take away the fact that Tony won fair and square and did a great job in the contest. I also have to mention that Tony looked in a lot better shape hiking up the hills this year than last ;)

Congrats to the old man :)
