What can I say? Minutes from Austin and Fort Hood. DZ is ON I-35! Fastest Aircraft in the industry. The people are fantastic. I only jumped a few times when I was going in and out of Fort Hood in the Summer 2006, but I had a blast. The facilities couldn't be better, indoor packing, training room, snackbar, gear shoppe. Only the weather can keep you down on this DZ.

If you want fun-loving, friendly, professional people, and a great DZ with plenty of emergency landing options; plus an aircraft that rocks--go to Salado (Skydiving Temple)! This place is what skydiving is all about and shows it. It's also relatively cheap for multiple jumps. These folks know how to do it right.
I think that some of the older contributions mentioning the "small aircraft" should be edited out, as many other contributers have pointed out that Skydive Temple has a new aircraft, along with new management. Although it's no C-130 space-wise, the PAC-750XL is a fast climber, very comfortable, and easy to exit. It's also got a great sound system and a good pilot.

After jumping at Raeford DZ in NC for 11 years (a fantastic place by the way), I moved back to TX looking for a new home DZ. I looked around at a couple other places and quickly decided Temple was the HEAT! Everyone at the DZ has a fantastic/friendly attitude. The price of a jump is in line with most other DZs, however, you get more bang for the buck, 14,500 ft in less than 15 minutes (and that goes for the Tandems too). There are other DZs closer to where I live, but the jump benefits SD Temple offers are worth an extra hour. Altitude, speed to altitude, great vibe, and being easy to get to all make for a great place to jump. Mark Mark is continually upgrading the facilities to make SD Temple an even better place to jump. The people are friendly and welcome all who come to the DZ, no matter what your experience level or discipline is. And beer rules apply for all (beware Sky Gods).

I came to this dropzone for the July 4 Boogie and have now moved here. The Vibe here is great and the potential for growth is huge! With Austin 45 minutes south and Fort Hood 20 minutes north this little DZ will become a major player in Skydiving quickly!

The DZO has a great plane (PAC 750 XL) I have been in many otters etc., this is a true 11 minute ride to 14,000 feet with 15 on board. The stereo in the plane makes the trip seem even shorter. Air vents along both sides of the benches make for a comfortable climb as well.

Got a Small group that wants to jump weekdays? This is the perfect plane for that, it can be launched with 6 people, perfect for team training!

Well I arrived here just passing through from Australia, and I can't find a reason to leave.

The people who work, jump, watch etc here are all fantastic! The plane, well 14000ft in 10mins with music, man awesome!

Watching the place grow over the last few weeks is excellent, with a few more extra people coming with every passing weekend.

Mark Mark the owner and all round good guy, is putting the finishing touches on the last few amenities that are required, and looking sweet!

Atmopshere, Vibe, Scenery are all terrific, and is a place we could all call home quite easily.

Come on down and see for yourself.

Cheers !!

DZ is under new ownership since March 2006, so reviews written before then don't apply now.

The new owner brougt a kickass PAC 750 XL skydiving friendly aircraft that rockets to (a usually generous) altitude in about 12 minutes.

Many investments have been made in the infrastructure - SnackBar, Gear Store, New Manifest, computers, wireless internet, video room, digital photography, covered waiting area, well-stocked beer fridge, etc. More still to come.

The turd pond west of the landing area is still there - it belongs to the adjacent Valero Truck Stop, but it's not a problem unless you fly with your eyes closed.

Overall, a good place to jump has just gotten a lot better.

The Good, like a said it's a small dropzone but it still has a great feel to it. It's easy to find and right off the freeway, it's got a nice open landing area. Great indoor A/C packing area and some real freindly people. The view on the way up was great, nice scenery.

The Bad, there's an open sewer pit near the landing area so it's something you want to avoid at all costs. The main building is small so there isn't much room to hangout while your waiting. Also Temple is a small town, the kind of town you drive through on your way to somewhere else so it might be a little out of the way.

The Ugly, the Cessna took forever to get to altitude and when there's tandems you might have to wait a little while.

Overall the best part of this place was the people, more like a friendly skydiving club then a dropzone.

I mentioned in the "Pro's" that Rich taught me to skydive. I now have four kids and am just starting back. I still owe him 200.00 bucks from the last time I jumped with him and he hasn't come and taken my first born, which shows valor in my book. I will always have a place in my heart for him and my friends at Skydive Temple. Im sure he will still have a place in his pocket for my 200.00;)

I have made around 75 jumps at this dz, and it's my primary. I have been going there for about a year, and everyone there treats you like family. Rich, the DZO, is the man in charge of everything. As much as he has to do, he ALWAYS has the time to answer anything that you can ask of him. All of the instructors/experienced jumpers are the best, and willing to do anything for anyone up there. It is the friendliest place that I have ever seen. I would recommend Skydive Temple to ANYONE looking to make a tandem one time, or looking to start a full AFF program.

Skydive Temple is a great place to jump. From the time of arriving at the DZ we were made to feel welcome by all there. Rich was very friendly and helpful in explaining everything about the DZ and it's operations. Small planes, but a great view from alti. The indoor packing area was nice and air conditioned. After the sunset load the cookout was a nice way to end the day. All of the local juumpers were friendly to the point of making the dz feel like I've been jumping there for years instead of being the first time there. The only con was out door seating for spectaors was limited for the amount of people there. So take your own chair and prepare to feel like you've found a home.

Richard and the staff are professional, care about all of the jumpers, not just the tandems. They work with the students to get them through their training and care about getting the students licensed. Other DZs care little about the student or regular jumpers. They, the others, care only about the money they get from tandem jumpers. As a consequence, at other DZs you start to feel like a number and that they couldn't care less whether you show up or not. This never happens at Temple. Your needs and concerns are important to all the staff. They watch your jumps and offer pointers whether you're a tandem jumper or not. Hats off to Rich and the Temple folks!

After having come from a large DZ I was rather skeptical at first about coming to a smaller DZ. I was amazingly surprised. Everyone there is super friendly and willing to help out or jump with low timers. The drop zone has a lot of tradition and history. The management is awesome and the staff is exceptional. All sorts of fun jumpships have been brought out (i.e. CH-47 Chinooks) Never in my life have I called a group of skydivers family, but these guys are. I anyone in the Austin, Killeen, Temple, or Waco areas this needs to be your home DZ if it isn't already.
