Really felt welcome from the staff and jumpers. Nice dz with lots of room to land. Large, clean packing area inside and air conditioned. Aircraft, what can I say, Twin Otters rock! This is the only DZ I have been to that has it's own pool on site. Excellent facilities that include a bunk room and a small kitchen.
As Arnold said "I'll Be Back"

I happened to be in San Antonio for business and Skydive San Marcos is the nearest place to the city. The DZ is easy to find and as soon as you get there the entire staff is incredibly friendly. I had my first jump of the day with a great freeflyer and it was him who asked me!!! Thanks Brian!!!
The loads go up one after the other having this place an enormous amount of tandem jumpers but never have I been posponed to let a tandem in. Fun jumpers are treated in a wonderfull manner. I managed 7 jumps but I could have done more than 10 easily if it were not for the lack of packers. The 2 that are dedicated tu staff and fun jumpers have an enormous amount of work and this limits fun jumpers activity.
Overall this place rocks!!
Beware of police officers on the nearby roads!!!

So i absolutely love Skydive san marcos, and i have spent the better part of my weekends out there for over a year now, the people out there are always friendly and love to teach you a thing or two. I love the way that people get to know you and your skill set and help you jump accordingly! and hey if nothing else can convince you to come out there, know this, I jump there, now come and meet me promptly!

I am sure not experienced at skydiving, but this place is great. I went up with three friends to take our first ever tandem. Two of us were really nervous, but the instructors were great, very flexible and patient. Great facilities, beautiful weather, fun people to be around. the goofing around in the plane was hilarious. I never felt unsafe - we just had a really great experience.

It's great to try something as new and as out there as skydiving is with people who you know love it and want you to love it too. Watching how excited everyone was when we landed and came in and went ahead and bought tickets to jump again... you know that's when you are dealing with people who are doing the right thing. thanks, guys. I sure do love it.

I can't say that I know much in this sport, heck I'm just beginning. But I can say that I truly enjoyed the experience. The staff is awesome, plenty of seating for the wait. Pool to keep cool in the hot Texas sun. I've made 2 tandem skydives with SSM and am looking forward to progressing in their AFF school. If you want a fun and great 1st experience this is the place. The only drawback I could find to the place is the wait, but if you have lots of patience (I do, especially if it's all about being safe) then it really isn't a problem.

Well, I don't know who this "asaptrades" guy is, but he obviously has a personal vendetta against someone at SSM. That said, Skydive San Marcos is one hell of a dropzone. Whether you're a 1 time tandem jumper or a regular fun jumper, you're gonna love this place. Nice plane, helpful staff, pool, air conditioned packing, great parties, and excellent atmosphere. There are lots of fun jumpers of all levels/disciplines, so finding someone to jump with is not a problem. I've been to a few other DZ's, but SSM is my home DZ and that will not change. And I've NEVER been told to pull low, contrary to what that other guy says.

5/18/03 Was my first jump. After much research I chose Skydive San Marcos. Glad I did!
Everone there is very nice, and had no problem helping out a newbie feel welcome! I watched closely as a packer packed the RIG, and she explaind what she was doing as she went.
I Tandem Jumped with Doug, a 7000+ Jump Vetran, My wife went with "Fabio" (he runs the DZ). I am doing a tandem progression AFF, so I had some ground instruction, while My wife looked on. The ride up, in the cessna was great, the 4 jumpmasters with us all meditated on the way up (making for a relaxed environment). I was so pumped, and really wanted out of the plane.
Wow what a feeling! I was third, my 2 buddies went first, i was third, and my wife last. She was able to see me doing my test pulls, and watch me navegate the canopy after i pulled (and held) the ripchord, while she did a couple of barrel rolls, head down dive, and a few spins while the drouge was released.

Once the canopy opened, the instruction continued, It felt as though, i had been freed from all the world. I could see downtown austin, 30 miles away. I was able to controll the canopy, and even do a nice canopy spin dive!
Doug my instructor, seemed open to any idea i felt comfortable with. I found Mike (my friends jumpmaster)to be one of the best instructors. But they were all available to answer our questions.

I would recommend that anyone try Skidive San Marcos, I cant wait till my next jump!

Fantastic medium sized DZ. I spent a year going out there nearly every weekend. Consistently a fun place to be.

It was difficult to think of a con but, upon mental review, I realized that despite the plethora of attractive women who frequent this DZ, I never saw any boobies. None. Zero. Zippy. This, I feel, is unacceptable, and I shall be forced to return soon in order to rectify the situation.

San Marcos is my home DZ and always will be as long as I live in South Texas. You receive lots of encouragement on your AFF training and you aren't berated or scoffed when you show up out here. There's a lot less pariahs out here and a lot more skydiving! This place is for both the noobeez and superfly-mo-fos. There are lots of jumpers all around the U.S. and abroad that come out here because they have had a good experience here or know someone who has.

(Plus, they have the best Otter in the state.) ;)

SSM is among the largest tandem dropzones in the country, averaging about 150 tandems per weekend. Those who pay a premium (tandem and AFF students, and there are lots of those around) have priority to get on the Super Otter (the only available aircraft), which is a solid jump plane with recently upgraded Dash 27s, taking up loads and loads of tandems to 10,500 on every load. One can also enjoy CASA jumps during SSM's annual Halloween boogie. There's some FS and Freefly coaching available (by Lynn and Todd, respectively) at a small additional cost. Both are great coaches in their respective disciplines.

As for safety, the S&TA and/or DZ manager are watching you from the ground! If you do anything stupid, like fly over the runway below 500 feet, or land cross-wind, you will face one of them in an unpleasant face-off, which will make you want to drive back to your home dropzone". Those, for whom San Marcos is the home dz.., it's only a matter of time before you'll be forced to find a new home, as unfortunate as it sounds...

San Marcos Skydive is the top on my chart. I have had nothing but positive feed back from all of the staff, from when I did my first tandem jump threw all of my AFF classes. Corry (whom I did my last two tandems with) has a great way of relaxing you before your jump. Jeff M. is also a great tandem instructor when I did my first tandem he really helped me threw it all from start to finish I even got to help fly the canopy. On my first AFF jump I have to thank Rock and Phil for they have to be level headed to hold on to me while jumping out of a plane. Phil (the owner) is the one that talked me down while under canopy and put me with in ten feet of where he was standing (great job) all thou I don't remember much of the jump being my first and all on my own rig. Doug has a high tolerance for stupid people when I jumped with him I went a little crazy in the air and he made me snap beck into reality. I can feel free to ask any staff member any question, and I know I will get knowledgeable answer. The staff in Manifest are very nice and know what they are doing every thing is always running like clockwork. Michael is one of the AFF instructor he is always will to help you with any problems that you are having with free flight or relative work. Michael also has a unique way to relax you body and mind while in the plane he closes his eyes and kind if meditates I felt as if he was sending me some vibes like hypnoses then went threw the dive, it was a great experienceI would recommend San Marcos skydive to and one of all ages. all my life I've wanted to skydive, but for some reason I never got around to it. Well two weeks ago I changed that. My two friends and I went to Skydive San Marcos to remedy that situation. We got there early on Saturday and they gave us a brief rundown on what we were expected to do. All the Tandem masters were very knowledgable and knew when to throw in some humor to keep us somewhat loose. The jump was indescribable and so much fun that we all went again. I was hooked and this past weekend I completed my first AFF jump. My instructors briefed me thourghly and rehearsed the jump with me until I felt confident in my ability to execute my objectives for this jump. The jump went fairly good for my first jump I think. My instrctors debriefed me after the jump and were really good about pointing out the things I need to work on and making a point to let me know the things I did right. I left the DZ feeling like I had conquered the world and was ready to move on to the rest of the universe. My friend who did an AFF jump that day also drove 240 miles so she could take her instruction here instead of the place ( I won't mention their name here) 15 miles from her because of the feeling she got visiting there. There don't seem to be a lot of politics and everyone there is very friendly. I would highly reccomend Sky dive San Marcos as DZ. I will be traveling in late summer and will get a better idea how My DZ compares to others out there. Thanks a ton to Phil and Jeff my AFF instructors.
