I have nothing but good things to say about the drop zone and the people you will meet there. I would / will recommend Spaceland to every jumper I know and I will be going back for more!

I actually had two other skydiving locations I thought about going to first as I live in Austin, TX but after a little research and speaking to a few local jumpers I came to spaceland. I could not have made a better choice. As far as I'm concerned this is now my home dropzone.

I' had the opportunity to jump at Skydive Spaceland, Rosharon last Sunday, it was a really good experience.

Starting with manifest staff, the jumpers, packers, everybody was very friendly, and make me feel welcome.

That day they have only one Otter running, the turn around was fast enough, they have a nice swoop pond, and a good green landing area. In simple words: a nice dropzone, if you are in Texas, a must place to jump.

I went to spaceland for my AFF and have been an A-license jumper there for a while now and about to move onto my B-license. They had excellent instructors through the whole program and definitely made the experience fun. I would go once every couple weeks and do 3-6 jumps a day. They are all very safety conscious and really stressed doing gear checks, pin checks, and knowing what do on malfunctions. On the weekend they were very busy so sometimes the instructors had to switch between multiple students or go on a tandem jump which slowed things down but they were just too busy. Their student rigs are all javelin containers with Sabre2 up to 230 sq ft and Navigators up to 280 or 300 sq ft with Cypres 2 AAD. They let the students use the cheap goggles and helmets, Alti-track or Viso 2 altimeter, and they have a rack of Bev Suits to grab your size. I'd recommend buying the basics (helmet, goggles, altimeter) when you start the program. After you figure out what kind of jumping you like get a jumpsuit (freefly or relative work).

Once I got my license I continued to rent while shopping for used gear which I regret. They reserve their rental gear for students, so if I went on a weekend and they had tons of students I had to wait till they were gone to use one of their rigs. If I could do it again I would have purchased a rig sooner to avoid the waiting game. And when they're swamped like that it takes a while for the packers to get to your chute. Nothing against them, they just don't have enough packers for the amount of jumpers that they move. During the week if the weather's good they'll fly 1 plane a day and on a good day have about 10 loads. On the weekend during good weather they'll be flying atleast 2 planes, sometimes 3, and I couldn't tell you how many loads. Probably 50+. They fly a supervan, twin otter, and sometimes a skyvan. They also have a cessna that they sometimes use to look for chopped chutes.

The facility is very nice and well maintained. There are two couch areas to chill. The packing room is large, carpeted, and air conditioned. There are several TVs all over the place with GoPro connections and lockers to store your gear. There's a deli upstairs and a viewing area out back on the patio with bleachers and tables. The experienced jumpers (C-license and up) can land on groomed grass right in front of the DZ. Newer jumpers land just off to the side and hike it in on a mowed pathway. There's also a swoop pond if you're feeling frisky. There's a board that they update with the winds at altitude and there are several overhead maps and a tetrahedron to guide the spotting and landing pattern. The only drag is that it's about 30 minutes away from everything, but there's no such thing as a dropzone in a popular area so it comes with the territory. They have a bunk room for people to crash in but I live in Houston so I haven't stayed there. There's showers and laundry and if you've ever stayed in a hostel then you know what it's like.

There are all kinds of jumpers here. Tons of tandems and students but there's a large community of flyers that jump here religiously. Mainly belly flyers and fun jumpers but there's no shortage of freeflying and even some wingsuiters. They've started organizing more jumps which is nice to start working on team belly flying but before that it was tough to crack into the family and jump in a group. It's not uncommon to see 20 way jumps and sometimes they'll fill both planes for a 40 way jump. They also have tons of coaches for all skills and have several camps and courses for specific skills. They have camps for small-way, big-way, free-flying, and certified canopy course instructors.

The pro shop here is also very helpful. Kara took the time to teach me what kind of gear to look for and what to avoid. She even helped me design and ordered my my new gear after I found out shopping for used gear is harder than it looks.

Hop and pops are $14. Full altitude (14,000 feet) are $25. To rent gear per jump is another $25. If you buy 3 of the big items through their proshop you can get a day rate of $35 to rent. And if you buy a package of 100 jumps it's $2,200 instead of $2,500 if you bought them individually. It's nice jumping in Houston at 0 feet above sea level so you can get to a higher altitude and have more freefall time. I've jumped in Colorado before and at 11,000 feet we were actually at 18,000 feet density altitude and starting to feel a bit woozy on a long cessna flight. These planes get to altitude in 10-15 minutes depending on air traffic and I've never felt light headed.

As far as the reviews about tandems, my only advice would be to make an appointment for early in the morning and be on time. I had a couple of prior tandems at another facility but Spaceland made me do one more tandem before beginning my AFF just to make sure I was good to go. I made the appointment the day before for 7:30 AM and I walked right on the plane. But if you walk in at noon on the weekend, you may be waiting for a while.

Overall this is an excellent dropzone and I highly recommend it to everyone!

FACILITIES: This place is top notch, everything is new or nearley new, gear store is well stocked, packing area is the best i've seen (ac, carpeted, tvs with GO PRO cables all over), two different lounging area with couches and tvs, nice back patio area. Landing area is groomed grass (c liscense and above) or high cut grass. And they have a swoop park with a nice pond.

AIRPLANE: Two Sky Vans, A Twin Otter and a Super Van, you've got to be kidding me and theyre all new and super nice.

STAFF: Super friendly, good packers, good DZ briefings.

CROWD: Kinda different here, seem ok but there was a big team event and they kept to themselves (obviously) and everyone else seemed to be on their own program.

Overall: Well laid out DZ, nice scenery, and everythings new!

I did my first tandem at Spaceland last Friday and bought my pass for the 2nd same day for 50% off. I will be going back in a couple weeks for the 2nd tandem and then will be doing the A-License training soon after. The instructor for my tandem was very encouraging and a great teacher.

Skydive Spaceland was where I did my 1st Tandem jump, I bought the pictures and videos and it was AMAZING. I ended up going back to Spaceland about a month ago for my second tandem and my instructor was by far the best!! My 2nd jumped turned out to be way better than the 1st!!! From this great experience at Skydive Spaceland, I plan and booking many more jumps with them. Everyone is friendly, funny, and make the whole experience comfortable. Love this place & the people!! :D

I lived in Austin briefly and ventured out to Skydive Spaceland with my boyfriend to check it out. Professional and friendly staff gave me a great DZ briefing, and everyone was really great with my questions. Definitely would have called Spaceland a home away from home DZ if I was still in Texas!

Me and my wife did 2 tandems and our AFF at Spaceland. The staff is like a second family to us. Great aircraft and plenty of loads. For those reviews complaining about being "tricked" into sitting all day in bad weather and not getting a refund, I will say this: I have sat many times for hours in bad weather only to have an opening pop up and get two or three jumps in. You never know! This is a weather related sport, if you tell everyone "its cloudy today, go home" at 8am you will not be in business long. The refund policy is clearly stated on the website and in the manifest office. These guys are skydivers, not meteoroligists so next time do your homework, pay attention to the website and HUGE banner in manifest. They are not here to rip you off, and if you hang around and talk to everyone I think you'll find they are a pretty awesome group. Sad that such an awesome place gets a few bad reviews from people who didn't pay attention.

This place is only good because of the guys who are on the plane with you. Management feigns concern but does nothing about pricing cons. After talking to people who have jumped here, they all say the same thing... Of course the jump is a great experience but they too were misled when it came to pricing and because we didn't know the names of the people who had multiple times quoted a lower rate for us, the owner said there was nothing he could do without a name and refused to give us our NON-REQUIRED deposit refund. We had reserved a group of 9, they earned at least $3,000 from us with jump fees and videography and there was NOTHING he could do? Hard to believe. Customer service is key in these luxury sports. Go to Skydive Houston instead.

Get it in writing, record the call - just be careful handing them your money. And tip the videographers too because they need it!

WARNING Check the weather before you pay if you are out of town, NO REFUNDS due to weather conditions. I had two friends visiting Houston and I took them to spaceland for their first tandem. The weather wasn't great, it was cloudy.

However, they told us very confidently that it usually clears out around noon so we signed in and pay $660. Yes, it cleared out later that morning and we saw nice blue skies for a few hours, but it was still windy. We didn't have idea on the weather conditions required for a safe tandem. It turned out that over 20 knots winds you can't jump. They won't tell you that, as they won't tell you once you pay you won't get your money back!, even if you can't jump due to weather conditions. We waited 7 hours but wind conditions didn't improve and eventually it became cloudy again, they closed the place and gave us rain checks! "SORRY we can't control the weather" was the response of the girl at the desk. Your only option, if you are out of town, is to plan another visit to Houston within 6 months or transfer their f* rain check to another jumper and pay a $50 fee! (if you are lucky to find someone willing to do that without any discount). Later I met a couple in my condo that had the same issue, they had three friends visiting from Mexico that couldn't jump due to the weather, they went back home with spaceland's stupid rain checks after paying almost a 1,000 bucks. So, this is not again the staff, instructors are nice there and very professional, but unfortunately this dishonest and rude way of the owners of making businesses makes the whole place look bad. Some of the guys there looked ashamed that day, it is clear they are just following orders. C'mon owners, your staff knows when it is a bad day to jump, they have weather reports that are normally very accurate, they are very experienced, they have seen bad and good days, they know that over 23 mph winds nobody is going up. We didn't know that. One of the instructors told us that winds usually die by the end of the day, "it is aaaaalways the same" he said. But you ask your staff to keep their mouth shut until you get people signed in. That's low.

You have to be transparent and let people know that it might not be a good day to jump, and let them chose what they want to do with their time and $, instead of trying to be smart and taking people's hard-earned money like this. You give false hopes, made visitors wait the whole day and then come out with this unfair rain check b.s. I'm not bringing friends to spaceland ever again, and I happen to have a lot of friends visiting. Too bad.

My friends and I made our first tandem jumps here, and then I went on to get my A-license through their great Student Training Program. The entire staff are very friendly, encouraging, safe and talented. I'm very glad that I live close to this place. Just watch out for the mosquitoes in the summer.

I drove 45 minutes from my home near downtown, to make some jumps on my birthday. I found they recently built a 500' x 500' swoop pond, so I wanted to have fun on my birthday, and make some hopn pops, you know, play with the new pond.. So I go to manifest and I'm told 'No hop n pops. Just got word from the pilot to limit them' I asked why and was told they didn't want to put me out in the clouds. They were flying hot full alt loads all day. I walked outside and looked up at 80% blue skies. No hopnpops because of clouds??

So I left the dropzone, and did not get to skydive on my birthday... WTF??

Anyone care to answer?

I went to skydive Houston on the north side the next day and had a lot of fun jumping in a less 'stressed out' environment

Just got finished with collegiate nationals at this DZ and it was one of the best DZ's I've been to yet. Top notch service great people and great air craft. The weather was kinda tough a couple of times but the weather can be uncooperative anywhere.

I feel myself as in my own home Dropzone back in Brazil. These people are awesome, the place has everything you need for a good skydive day, weekend or season! Weather is pretty good all year, the aircrafts are very clean & new. There's a very big & good landing area. The 3X US Nationals Champions of Freefly and World Record holders are here, so there's no better place for myself to be!
Nice coaching, nice shop/store, nice air-conditioning packing area...OMG! This is heaven???

The people are great, and very friendly, it's a wonderful place to learn to jump. I flew from New York to Texas just to jump here because of the reviews on this site and I'm so glad I did. They made me feel very comfortable and prepared for my first (and then second) jump.

The thing I loved most was that they seemed so confident in their skills so they were able to joke around and that made me relax and just have a great time.

Skydive Spaceland is great!

Nice facilities: A/C bunkhouse and packing area;
Very Nice Aircraft: Super Otter, Caravan, and a 182
Super Nice Landing Area: BIG with lots of cushy grass

But the real story are the Even Nicer People

I spent a weekend at Spaceland and despite some semi-uncooperative weather, I had a blast.

I stayed in the bunkhouse which was comfortable and well air-conditioned. The packing area is very nice and also air-conditioned, which is a huge plus. Although, I could see it getting pretty cramped on busy days.

The Super Otter was nice as was the climb rate and jump altitude (between 13.6-14.1 on every load I was on). The Caravan was also very nice.

The landing area is beautiful…I don’t know how many acres…but more than enough! It is covered in cushy grass and has a well defined experienced and new jumper landing areas. And if you land at the far end…you’ll likely see a staff member rolling up on the ATV to give you ride back to the hanger.

The people are great. Literally everyone at the DZ seemed to be friendly and ready to answer questions or just chat.

Also a big thanks to Mike and Robert for offering to do some RW jumps with a new (36 jumps) and visiting jumper and then organizing the surprise SCR attempt.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget when I first realized that just about the whole load had gone up to join me on my first 8 way! Surprise!! Surprise!! That was AWESOME!!!

Thanks to all for making this trip very memorable and extremely fun! I had a blast and learned a lot! I’ll definitely be back the next time I come within a half days drive of Houston!

Oh yeah and thanks to Dennis for the Repack!!! I think I still owe some beers to all when I return...

I enrolled in their Solo Transition Program. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to get into skydiving. The instructors make sure you what is expected and how things should work while still keeping it fun for you. I didn’t always get the same instructor over the span of the course but each was just as fun and knowledgeable to learn from. They don’t just teach you about the actual jump but they’ll go into the other equipment used on a jump and will give advice if you want it.

The instructors don’t just forget you after you’re done. I made a jump with one or two after my license was done and even just sat down and talked to a couple when the last load for the day was done.

I visited the dropzone during the week in January and I guess its pretty quiet everywhere in TX at the time. So not many people around.

Im sure this is an awesome place when busy in the summer or on the weekends.

40 minutes from the center of Houston.

The good: A/C indoor packing, two otters, awesome landing area, the walk to my car was further then the walk to the plane, great people and too many other things to list.

The bad: I was looking for a cool Spaceland shirt to buy but they didn't have much. That's more of a comment then complaint though.

The ungly: I was warned to stay away from a near by swamp area because there are aligators in there. Needless to say I got no where near it. The aligator area is far enough away that you don't have to worry about it, but I still appreciate the tip.

Overall this place rocks. This place is as close to perfect as I've ever come across.
