I did my first tandem at SDO kind of a spur of the moment thing and my life after that moment changed forever. All i could think of was "how the hell am I going to pay for this?" I saved up for about a year and did my A-liscense. The instructors are phenomenal and each showed me important things that I will remember forever. But the one that truly stood out and opened up his heart to not only me but also to the other new students was Ted. He is my idol and I hope that someday I can be like him. Every DZ should have someone like Ted cause he helps people that are serious about skydiving acheive their goals. Not only does he make it fun but he it SAFE. This guy deserves an award for being who he is.

I moved to the Portland area this past spring and was pleasantly surprised by this DZ. Excellent facilities to include classroom, indoor & outdoor packing, A/C in the licensed jumpers clubhouse, a 200' swoop pond, huge landing area with lots of other outs nearby, and most of all friendly locals and staff that all focus on safety. The Caravans are the fastest I've jumped and no matter what your discipline of choice is, there is someone there that you can jump with and learn from. They are very attentive towards their students as well and provide a great all-around experience. If you're traveling thru, definitely check it out!

Could have been great but even they told us to allow 4 to 5 hours for a jump. I understand weather and mechanical but the real problem is too many people and not enough capacity. Should be 2 to 3 hours max if properly managed.

I can't say enough positive things about this dropzone. The staff was friendly and professional, and things seemed to run incredibly smoothly. We were welcomed, and immediately made to feel at home. I will certainly go back!

This place rocks! I lived there for 2 years, and I miss it alot. Not a day passes without my thinking about the sweet goodness at SDO. The experienced skydiver population is good size, with CRW dogs, swoopers, belly flyers, and a crap load of free flyers. The 300 series super otter is faster than any other I've experienced. The C-208 does pretty good also.If you like hiking, mountain biking or windsurfing, they are all within short driving distance. From June through early October this place is full throttle.Go there and experience skydiving next to the cascade mountains of the great northwest.

In the summer this is a great place to be for the experienced skydiver or the newby. In the winter the level of individual attention almost outweighs the long waits between jumpable weather days. The staff is very professional and competent. There are several world record holders in several disciplines who call this DZ home, and they are always available to help. With my job I could live anywhere and jump anywhere, and I choose to live here because of this DZ.

When I got there everyone was very friendly and made me feel right at home here. I only had a chance to do 2 jumps (work got in the way). I lost my wedding ring at 8k on a 2 way, Oh well, That just means I'll have to come back and look up there some more.

It took almost no time to check in, the manifest people and DZO were really nice and helpful. I will be sure to stop here again if I'm ever back in the area. You should too....

Went over to the west side to check it out for the weekend and definitely will be going back. Great place to jump a lot because they send the plane up almost constantly. The loads were organized and everyone knew who was going pond side and who was landing in the main area and don't get me started on how large of a landing area.

If you need to buy a case, bring "mirror pond", that's like the official sponsor of SDO.

My only family in a 6000 miles radius is in SDO.

You can't do better in the Northwest. The planes here, from Jump Air (http://www.jumpair.com) are THE cleanest, newest, nicest, and most importantly -- fastest jump planes you'll ever ride. Full loads get to altitude in ten minutes, and that's not just on a cold day.

The scenery is beyond beautiful. The ground is almost always green in every direction. Massive mountains jut up in the distance (Hood, St. Helens, Ranier, the Three Sisters, and sometimes Shasta).

All the amenities: indoor and outdoor packing areas, team rooms and camping (in the warmer half of the year), rigging loft with several very experienced riggers, "gear store" (OK, not a full gear store, but there's access to those things you need... Pro-Track batteries, goggles, etc), cameraflyers, video-editing room, lounge with a big screen TV, fridges, real bathrooms with real plumbing (plus the porto-potties), lots of parking, and it goes on and on.

You know ever have to ask, "Is the beer light on?" as this figurative phrase again. There's an actual light that says "Beer" on it. And the beer light here is an exceptional one. The fridges (and often times kegs) are populated with only the best, by the nation's biggest beer snobs.

If you're into BASE, you've got all four within an hour of the DZ, and plenty of them.

There's a great mix and acceptance of disciplines here. Come out at do some RW, freefly, skyfly, skyboard, or whatever. Then finish your jump with a swoop across the competition-size swoop pond. Or just hit the main, grass landing area facing into the light, consistent winds.

The ONLY downside is winter weather. From late October until April-Mayish, it's pretty much hop and pops. Albeit, some hop and pops in the snow, which kick ass, but the full altitude days get pretty scattered and cold throughout the winter.

I'm just a jumper here, but I love my drop zone. I'm not drunk right now or anything. ;) Point is... Skydive Oregon is a destination drop zone... not just a passing through/in the area stop. Though... you should do that, too.

Joe and Blake (owner and manager respectively) have a great place to call "home". The PacNW is beautiful to begin with. The drop zone let's you see it all and gives you plenty of room to take it all in. The up-jumpers and staff are very friendly. The egos are left elsewhere. The facilities are very good. The planes are in top-notch condition, always ready to go.

Big screen TV is great on those typical Northwest afternoons, and they really can put out the loads on those days when the weather is good. You can get tickets cheaper if you buy 10 at a time and they are good forever. The riggers are very helpful and have a great deal of experience. Good load organizers and lots of jumping "styles" to chose from (RW, Sit, VRW, CRW, Pond Swoops, etc.) and a horde of video people to record your every jump if you want. They are really good at drinking beer, but don't even try to bring Bud or Coors or any other "supermarket beer" if you owe a case. The staff and jumpers there will send you back to the store with your tail between your legs. High Quality Micro-brews only.
