I recently visited Skydive Greene County and was impressed most by the laid-back vibe and location. Staff are approachable and accepting of newbies. The location - less than an hour away from Dayton - is a bonus. I also felt the safety of the operation was better than average.

But this location comes with a few drawbacks as well. This drop zone features Cessna and Beech-18 aircraft. I flew both and it took some time to reach our jump altitude of 10.5K - 15 to 20 minutes. I'm a history buff and was psyched about the ride in the World War II-era Beech, but it was a haul. The Beech also lacks a door so it gets a bit chilly at 8K+. The max exit altitude of 10.5K (varies I was told) was also a bit low for a $24 jump ticket. Most DZs will take you to 12K+ for that much. The DZ itself is also small and surrounded by corn fields with little margin for error. Lastly, this DZ lacks an active Fun Jumper clientele. I counted 4 dedicated Fun Jumpers at the DZ this past Sunday - not including myself or the tandem instructors who took a few fun rides in between student loads.

This DZ is primarily a tandem operation, but doesn't feel like one. If you're in the area and would like to make a tandem, this DZ is for you! If you're a fun jumper I would also recommend it based on the vibe and locale, but you might be jumping solo.

I received S/L training there and everyone is very helpful and will answer any and all questions that you may have. The owner Jim West is one of the easiest going men I have met in a while and everyone that works there is very professional. I would recommend this place to anyone and I have given cards to everyone I know. So stop thinking about it go and jump at The Legend Skydive Green County

SGC has been my home DZ for a little over a year now and it has the most friendly staff around. The landing area is very large, the owners are the nicest and hardest working DZ owners that I have ever met. Their gear is top notch and it's just a great place to be. The regular crowd will jump with people of all ages and experience levels. Greene County rocks!!!!!

Unfortunately I didn't have much time to spend here and would of loved to see more of it but I only had a short time.
I emailed SGC asking them if i could jump as i'd left my logbook at The Farm in Georgia. Within a couple of hours I had a reply telling me they had spoke to The Farm and they looked forward to my arrival. They went the extra yard there and i was very impressed.

I arrived and i didnt have my packing card saying my reserve was in date (i was a real pain in the arse for them) and that wasnt a problem. Jim the DZO gave me free gear rental.

Paper work filled out and I was on a 20 minute call. Excellent.

I got 13.5k in the Otter then went up for a quick hop n pop in a lovely litte Cessna 182.

Super friendly people and I will definately be back there before I head back home to England.

Everyone at SGC has been very kind with advice and answering questions. It's easy to get coached jumps. As a new jumper,It's nice to feel a little looked after. With a good chill environment and friendly professional staff, whats' not to like? Blue Skies

I started jumping Xenia this year after jumping Greensburg last year. I had some concerns about safety at Greensburg....
My first day at Xenia someone landed outside of the normal landing pattern(into traffic) he wasn't off the DZ before the safety instructor had his ear. It was refreshing, encouraging, and professional.
As a young jumper it is easy to get a coached jump and very reasonably priced($65.00 includes your lift ticket).
The staff are friendly, outgoing, and open. Overall a great experience, start to finish. Don't miss the opportunity to visit. The owner, who has to be in his mid to late sixties, is still an active jumper...and great story teller.

I have been jumping and hanging out at Greene county for a few years, and I must say it feels like home. Whether it is your first jump or 500th people are nice and willing to answer any questions you have. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. The fleet of aircrafts is great, usually having a CASA or Twin Otter flying. Large covered packing are is nice too. This DZ is highly recommended!

A few days ago I made my first jump since 1967. Yes, I'm an old bastard. I found the SGC organization to be just what I waw looking for... highly competent, well organized, and very friendly. On my jump, the CASA 212 was jammed with young (mostly) and old (just a couple of us)who were looking for another great experience and found it. When you're ready to take the leap, you can't go wrong here.

Definitely enjoyed the chill vibe from SGC -- hanging around the campfire, staff inviting transeit jumpers to dinner, friendliness of office staff, places to crash, etc.

Not a fan of CASA's. I was disappointed because for being "The Legend" there were no freefliers over 200 jumps to learn from. Seemed to be the same w/ RW -- all the experienced jumpers were doing staff jumps =(

I've jumped at this DZ twice recently, four times out of a Super Otter (awesome!--a six second takeoff on grass!) and four times out of a Casa (fun!) Very large landing area which is great for a low timer like me. I flat pack, so I apprciated the large packing area. The personel were very friendly. The DZO, Jim West, saw a couple of faces he did not recognize and came right over and introduced himself and welcomed us to his excellent faciliy. Very classy! And Treeboy, the local rigger, patched a small hole in my topskin for two bucks. We all had a great time. We'll be back, for sure.

I've spent most of my skydiving career at SGC. The people are like family and its a great place to learn how to skydive and improve your RW skills. Great parties with bonfires and bbq sometimes. You can't beat the people, the plane [Casa :)], and the atmosphere. There is a huge landing area with plenty of outs and a great staff to assist you with whatever you may need.

Highly recommend jumping here, come out and see for yourself; I'm positive you'll have a great time :)

Spent Safety Day at Greene County. What a nice experience. The people were all very friendly and inviting. They had a super fast otter - altitude in about 8 minutes. And they seamed very organized and safety oriented. Check it out if you get a chance... I doubt you'll be disappointed. Thanks SGC... I'll be seeing you a lot this season!

Went by for a visit, and found a very nice DZ. Too bad its a Cessna for the winter, but I'll be back. Great vibe, kewl people. Runway is a bit scary, and I'd avoid landing out when the corn is tall.

Latly I've had the chance to travel to multiple DZ's and while other places might have "Faster" planes or other gimicks to get you to their DZ, Greene County has the best environment to jump in that I've ever seen. The staff and regulars who jump there seem to really care about everyone no matter if you are a first jump student to a multi-world champ. With their large plane fleet, its next to impossible not to get a big way in the air. The planes are in better condition then almost any others that I've seen and the landing field is a couple of hundred acres if needed. I'll go to SGC anytime again!

I went though my training at SCG and the place was amazing. I have continued to jump there, and will always go back. Jim West the owner is a great guy as well as the rest of the staff. Upon your first jump, you'll make friends with many of the jump masters and staff. Their planes are awesome, prices are reasonable and I can garuntee you'll have an all around great time. Check em out!

The people are the best thing about Skydive Green County. Everyone is willing to bend over backwards to make you feel at home and to help new jumpers progress. Add to that the fact that they have the best aircraft, piolots, instructors and gear and you will see why it is worth driving a little farther or spending a couple extra bucks for that tandem. There is a reason that Skydive Green County is the oldest civilian dropzone in the United States. It is simply the best.

I jumped a tandem here in October 2000 and loved it! The staff here is very friendly. The instructors are very knowledgable and helpful. I had the video made and it was great. I will hopefully make a couple more jumps within the next year or so and then do my training there in summer 2002! Blue Skies, SGC!!!
