Over the years, Skydive DeLand has been home to countless legendary National and World Champions and record holders. We established a unique environment to support the advancement of training for beginners and competitors. In doing so, DeLand became the center for serious competitive teams, a number of which became world champions, and a popular host DZ for numerous State, National, and World Record setting formation skydives, beginning with the first 72-person formation in 1983.

Our normal everyday activities include introducing newcomers to the sport through the Tandem and AFF programs and serving our local and traveling fun jumpers and coaches. We also host and support a variety of events and training programs such as Fly4Life warm up camps and FlightCamps, canopy courses through Flight-1 and Alter Ego, personal coaching through Tribu, wingsuit rentals and coaching through Arcus Flight, and multiple-plane high-altitude formation skydiving events.

We are open 365 days a year!

Skydive Deland is the capital of skydiving from the abundance of skydiving companies that have moved their operations to the city of DeLand just because they want to be located near this DZ; i.e. PD, Jumpshack, Mirage, Aerodyne, CPS, Aerotech, Merlin, LiquidSky, Chuting Star, Vigil, Alti2, Elemental, Blue Skies Magazine, Parachute Labs, TSO & UPT among others to world class coaches in all disciplines such as swooping with Flight-1 or Alter Ego, Angle Flying with Fly4Life or FlowFreeFly, free flying with Vuelo or Tribu, ratings with Skydive University, wing suiting with Flyteskool, 4-way with the National Skydiving League & frequent big ways as well as State Records...yes coaching with THE BEST will cost you AS IT SHOULD! Skydive DeLand has welcomed all levels of skydivers for over 30 years, their history is skydiving history and that is why NBC Sports chose this DZ for their reality show on our sport called SkyLife. The vibe is all about family, it's one of the few DZs that has a playground so yes you can land and keep an eye on your kids while they play. It has a full service restaurant and bar, no bottled water, they give out water for free. They are opened EVERYDAY, yes even on Thanksgiving, New Years and during Christmas and don't be surprised to be invited to a feast to celebrate those holidays with the staff and locals because the vibe is all about family & you're a part of that SKY FAMILY. Want to jump with the locals then join them for Locals Load every Wednesday or attend rad events such as Disappearing Island, have family that just want to watch they can hang out at the observation deck. Most of the packers are also riggers, every 25 minutes there is a load, they have their own planes and don't have to depend on bringing in planes from other DZs including the much loved SKY VAN, assigned landing areas to divide students from more experienced jumpers or swoopers to keep you safe, brand new UPT rigs for students, top notch rental rigs, showers & washing machines on the facility, team rooms & hangers for big groups, extremely professional tandem masters, their gearstore will beat or match any price and they are dealers for pretty much everyone & they are the only ones that offer the PAY AS YOU JUMP program for those skydivers that want to buy a new rig but can't pay it off all at once. No you will not be treated as a baby, you will have to spot for yourself and if you need the help doing so you will get it because even though your videographer or your AFF instructor are world champs you probably won't notice since there are no big ego's here. Just ask the many skydivers that have moved to DeLand just to jump here how the vibe is, if it was so terrible why do stay? Maybe it's the down to earth, hands on owner whom is the strongest supporter of setting a standard of professionalism for other DZs, leading by example which is why skydivers as far as from China have jumped at Skydive DeLand. Yeah, it rocks.

This is my second review of Skydive Deland, I' choose to travel there, with my couch because the possibility to make 6 or 7 jumps per day, also during weekdays.

Deland is considered the capital in the skydiving world, thanks to the parachute industry there, and the good weather during the winter, which makes very appealing to the team from all around the world, during the last visit there were there the China teams 4-FSm male and female, and Qatar crew training, plus the local jumpers, tandem and foreigners, I' made 6 jumps per day easily. During the slow day they run the PAC, when get busier they start the Otter, the Skyvan fly only when the military are training there. The dz offer all services, all packers have the rigging-ticket, the bar-restaurant is probably the best among dz, and there are a tons of couches available, for all disciplines, from FS to free-fly, to canopy couch. The city of Deland is 45 minutes from Orlando airport, and offer great choice of lodging, at all prices, vast variety of restaurant, and a lovely historic downtown to walk after jump, while if you go to Sebastian, for example, the cost of a room in town is over 100 dollar easily. Camping at dz is free. This is important for those on budget like me. The only cons is the lack of a free-fly load organizer, at least during the weekend, and summer time, like anywhere else in Florida, the heat is unbearable, with high humidity.

Was part of the SOS record team so I have been doing this for a while. Haven't been to Deland since the early '90's and saw that they had made a lot of good improvements to the facility. We were the for an event and the staff at Deland did an excellent job of hosting it for us. Everything went very smoothly, if there were problems we didn't know about them. The aircraft and pilots were excellent and we had no problem making our scheduled jumps - we even set a new world record and held it for close to 20 seconds. Sweet!
Thanks Bob and all your staff for making it happen.

I went to DeLand on a Wednesday during a vacation from WI to FL. They have a great setup there as far as having a restaurant/bar, gear shop, and monitors set up to show upcoming loads. The plane looked great, flew good, got up to altitude real quick, and had a great spot each jump. However, there were 3 people that spoke to me. One person gave me the required orientation, and laughed when I asked if they had packing hooks. I was never trained to pack over the shoulder, only with hooks. His attitude at that question wasn't all that great, because I asked if hooks were available for a reason, not so that he would look at me and laugh saying that I'm tall enough to go without hooks. The next person that talked to me asked me if I had been in a PAC750 before. The third person to talk to me asked me when I'm pulling. That was the extent that I was spoken to the entire time I was there. I got two solo jumps in, and left out of boredom. If this is how the bigger dropzones are, I'll stick to my friendly anybody-talks-to-you small WI dropzones.

As a side note of my own personal annoyance, since I didn't have 100 jumps or more, I had to land across the taxiway from the PRO area. The size of their PRO area is bigger than the entire landing area of the dropzones I go to. This only added to the boredom - landing by myself away from everyone else.

Jumped here for a couple of days during my tour through Florida. Lots of international pros hanging around. Lots of coaching possibilities as also many pros seem to be short in money... Apart from that no friendly or homey vibes or people to fun jump with. Purely commercial and manifest is rather unfriendly. You are nobody there below 1.000 jumps. Restaurant is good and seemed to be heavly frequented also by locals, but better go to the old airport bar down the street for famous cheesbrugers.

Deland does not seem to get a lot of love in the skydiving community. My experience was one of a place where I could improve my knowledge and skills by training with top notch professionals as well as met some of the people responsible for making the gear I depend on. Even with less than ideal weather-3 0f 6 days were jumpable, I found the trip to be a fantastic learning opportunity and I am already developing an agenda for my next trip. Thanks DeLand, Flight-1, and Skydive U.

I completed my AFF in Deland and fromthe ground school, through graduation, and beyond they were friendly and helpful. The staff is welcoming and they will help you with any questions or techniques. This is my only DZ so far but it definitely set a high standard. I would recommend them to everyone.

Had three great instructors that helped me graduate AFF. They were vere safety conscious and didn't let me progress till I got it all down. Recommend this for anyone starting out.

Here we go.

I knew (and still know) nothing about Skydiving but manages a tandem and thought about AFF.

I live in the UK so thought..."well, if I'm going to jump out of a plane, I'd like to be at the best place in the world to learn"

All road lead to Deland, but more importantly, Skydive University based at Skydive Deland.

I rang around several Dropzones asking about AFF - as a complete newbie scared out of his pants, it was important to get the initial vibe from the people who answered the phone.....

By far the best initial reponse was from Rob Laidlaw and the team @ Skydive University @ Deland.

They called me - spoke through the course. Answered my silly newbie questions without laughing at me :) ....

I was given a dedicated instructor who sent me a rough outline of the course....

I booked my flights and turned up.

They were waiting for me.

Its not easy to turn up at a DZ as a newbie - I arrived on the day of Shamrock Showndown - the DZ was full of international teams - but the vibe at Deland was welcoming, positive and pretty unique.

Robert Chrome (Chromy) was my dedicated instructor with Lindsay Widdall as well.

After the initial ground school my thought went from...

Skydiving is an unsafe sport done by adrenalin junkies as they love fear...

Wow..

This is 90% about safety.

Anyway - PM me if you want to know more about choosing Deland.

All I can say is that EVERY single instructor at both Skydive U and Skydive Deland went out of their way to chat to me as I made an effort with them..

Lindsay, Frasier, Nikki, Carl Robby to name just a few ...

The food is great at the restaurant..

The shop is friendly (if slightly confused with their accounting !)

I even managed to shower there before I left

I FEEL THIS IS MY HOME DZ EVEN THOUGH I AM 5000 MILES AWAY!

Skydive Deland in my opinion is by far one of the best in this sport but very fun jump unfriendly. I went through my AFF at Deland and got some of the best instruction imaginable, but after aff they expect you to do nothing but belly fly and they claim that after 100 jumps they don't care but truth is they still do, at this point I have 371 jumps and still get rude comments from instructors and staff on occasion after I have done a freefly jump with friends. I have a lot of tunnel time and a lot of freefly jumps, I have perfected my freefly and am very safe about it when I do it, but still get rude remarks from the guys at deland. If your not on a big team or trying bigway formations then deland shows little interest in you. They are a great drop zone and I will go back but just keep in mind that if you want fun jumps your probably better off going to Sebastian where they are very very fun jump friendly plus they drop ya with a great view over the coast.

After doing a tandem at another Central Florida DZ, I decided to sign up for the AFF course. Decided on Deland and am glad I did. The atmosphere is awesome and they have lots of instructors available almost all of the time. After only 3 jumps I already feel like this is my "Home DZ". I am also very impressed with the prices in the shop. Most of them are as good or lower than online prices. I highly recommend Deland.

I wrote an earlier review which criticized the age policy at Skydive Deland. I was turned down for AFF training because I was 60 years old despite that I am in excellent physical shape and offered to pay to be evaluated for physical ability and mental awareness. I ended up earning my AFF in two days at another DZ in Florida and returned to Skydive Deland on the following day and was able to jump. I believe that their age policy is a bit discriminatory and that they should consider applicants based on their individual merits. Despite my initial disappointment,Deland is now my home DZ. Since then, I have been able to receive some excellent instruction from Bob Crossman and Carl Daugherty. The experience has been absolutely EXCELLENT!
Now that I know my way around, I have made some good friends and I am able to appreciate the whole skydiving experience. The facilities and equipment are really nice plus the food at the restaurant is excellent. If you are serious about skydiving, I strongly recommend Skydive Deland.

I was only there for a sat to jump..got a great tour of the building packing area, landing areas, and where I should land.. the local jumpers. And may they all forgive me for not remembering their names. And Rita was the only one that signed my log book and had to look to get that name..but anyway ..they all made me welcome and like family.. can not say thank you enough for the invites on every load.

The otter was fast to altitude, and the crew was very professional. this is one place I will come back to.

These guys were great from the word go! Jim and I flew in from VA to get some jumps in and enjoy the warm weather. Everyone here had a great attitude and was very helpful and friendly. Lots of people with lots of jump experience just hanging around and willing to talk and give advice. Staff here was very friendly, and Pine was a great instructor. I am looking forward to flying back down and spending more time with them. Thanks for everything .

-Professionalism: Manifest (A++) extremely efficient. Coaches at times don't have the best delivery to convey the message (B-).

-Vibe: OK.

-Aircraft: Otter, clean with floor mating. It has an altimeter by the door (A+)

-Facilities: Restaurant is awesome (A). Packing area not the greatest (B-). Landing area between 2 runways not a lot of leeway for holding without crossing one of them on landing patterns (C).

-Services: Rental equipment has good variety; load organization / electronic screens / timed sequences of loads (A+)

-Location: No real scenery to enjoy while free falling.

My 1st trip to Deland was not great. I didn't know there was a 5% charge for using Credit Card and there was a misunderstanding about the price.

I've since been 2 more times and had good experiences. Frasier was our instructor and I highly recommend him.

Thanks.

I can't understand some of the negative reviews, but this is a world class skydiving facility and sometimes there is a short wait to get on a load in season which is understandable. I am an experienced Jumper and travel a couple times a month between Wisconsin and Deland. I usually come out by myself and don't have a lot of friends there as I am into canopy flying and usually go out at the lower altitudes. Never am I treated with disrespect or have experienced someone who is rude. Though they don't really know me, I get the usual waves and greetings from Staff Members as well as the other jumpers.
Observing the Staff assigned to Students, I noticed an outstanding relationship they have with these customers. Even with the Tandem Masters grueling schedule, they take the extra time to act the part of the professionals they are. Just look at some of their videos on youtube these Students post and see for yourself.
The landing facilities are perfect. There are lots of options if the main area gets a little tight with a big load in the air. The restaurant has the best food of any drop zone in the US. The Riggers are also great. Nobody ever mentions Pilots, but being one myself I can attest that they are probably the best team of Professional Pilots found anywhere.

I was in the area for business and decided to take my rig to experience another DZ. I'm impressed! A Thursday, so not very busy, we flew the PAC 750 and I only got two jumps because weather rolled in for the afternoon. Every staff member I spoke to was friendly. My wife and I arrived Wednesday afternoon (they weren't jumping due to weather) and Mike, the DZO, went out of his way to speak to us in the bar and recommended some places to stay. It's a big DZ, with a wide variety of experience levels and instruction. Even if you go solo, I think it would be a great place to meet other upjumpers and learn new things. The layout and the restaurant (great food btw) are very nice. I'll definitely be back, most likely for some freefly coaching.

Pros: Local top manufacturers, top notch training from local instructors(Not DeLand staff).

Cons: Never has Boogies, Unprofessional staff(A few staff members not all), DZ stops jumping 1-2 hours before sunset regularly.

Not sure what the previous review is all about. I'm a coach and took a student down. He needed five more jumps for his license. After DZ review and his currency jump we were well on our way. Invited by some others for different jumps. The staff was excellent! Organiation and everything was well run.

I understand why Deland functions the way it does but having said that - you wont find me going back there unless I truly have no other choice. I am a fun jumper and I'd like to just go and goof off in the sky with my friends - there isnt much room for that at Deland. 2 hour waits between loads and lack of attention to fun jumpers didnt make it very exciting. However, if you are looking for top notch RW instruction and team facilities or just any facility in general this is place to be. There is a reason why PD, UPT and a host of several RW teams train here every year. If you are looking for fun and a great time with friends - go to Sebastian

My friend and I went to Skydive Deland for Scott Miller's essential canopy skills course. The course and Scott Miller were excellent, however the facilities and the instructors that work at Skydive Deland were atrocious and on more than one occasion extremely rude. On several occasions they over loaded the plane. On one instance I noticed the instructors lying down in the back of the plane, and when I asked them to sit up so everyone behind me could board the plane and find a seatbelt. I was told to sit the F*** down and mind my own business. We still had 8 people that needed to board the plane, and one of our classmates was the last person to board the plane. He was crammed into the door, and barely able to hold on. One of the instructors (who are clearly marked by their skydive Deland T-shirts) stopped the plane on the tarmac and started cursing at him until finally someone was able to share a seatbelt with him. While having a seatbelt is an important safety concern, there was no need to be that rude. This entire situation could have been avoided if the instructors had just stopped leaning back, and made room for others. The other problem I noticed is the student landing zone (which is where the class was supposed to land) is bordered on two sides by active runways. We made five jumps that day, and I had to deal with airplanes in the landing pattern as well as other jumpers. It’s not a lot of fun trying to avoid Cessna’s on downwind. The only other problem I noticed is that there is no shade anywhere, so on the truly hot summer days there is nowhere to hide from the heat. There are so many other excellent dropzones in Florida; I would recommend trying some of the others, especially if you are traveling a long distance to have fun!

Blue Skies!
