I just reciently went skydiving and I can honestly say it was the best decision I've ever made!! I've wanted to skydive my entire life and finally got to do it and it was the most amazing experience I've ever had! The instructors and all the others are some of the nicest, most fun people to jump out of airplanes with, I promise you won't regret it!! I wish one day to be working there with all the others so I can do exactly what they do! They're so inspirational and who wouldn't want to get paid to jump out of airplanes? I hope I get to go back sometime to be a part of that experience again and would highly recommend skydive alabama!!!! One of the greatest places in Alabama!

Was my first (many more to come) jump. What a great time! Before I got there I felt very intimidated. They made me feel like a pro in no-time!!! Facility and equipment was top notch (save the vinyl crack [you know Paul Rossouw])

My buddy & I looked around the internet for days trying to find the best spot in the U.S. for my first jump. Being he had 132 jumps under his belt I took his advice and booked this place. We drove 12.5 hours and it was time well spent!!!+!

We made it home safe guys, thank you again so much, and you are right.......the most dangerous part WAS the drive home!

I dropped in to make some fun jumps and this was an awesome place for it! Made a couple jumps with only seven people on a caravan, it was awesome! The staff and students are friendly,I was invited to join a 100th jump for one of the locals which turned into a 13-way, incomplete, but still great fun.

"Tandem Factory" is the least accurate description I could give to this place. As upjumpers we all know that students and tandems pay the bills, but it seems that these guys really care about their regulars more than trying to pull a huge profit. Of course the Pac doesn't compare to the Super Otter that I've come to love at Gold Coast, but it's still hundreds of times better than the C-182 I've dealt with for most of my jumps!

There's a restaurant on site - $3.99 for a hamburger and other very reasonable prices. The gear shop has what you might need (tube stows, altis, goggles, etc) and they make the mistake of allowing you to take what you want and pay for it all at the end of the day! I almost forgot that I snagged a bag of tube stows before I left, but I paid for them.

They charge 3% for credit cards so bring a checkbook. $25 per load gets expensive so I guess that's how they handle taking care of their upjumpers more than bumping us for tandems and AFF. Still, one of best dropzones I've been to. Out of the 9 DZs I've visited, I'd rate this one number 2 (right behind Gold Coast in Mississippi) only because of the PAC and the $25 per load. The friendliness of their skydivers and their willingness to jump with you and get you involved in what they do is incomparable, though. I'll definitely be coming back here.

Bottom line I cannot say it enough, but you must travel down there and check things out for yourself! When you get there tell Hardwood that you want to make a skydive....Ha Ha...

Thanks guys....see you again!!

First off I'm a student so my experiences are somewhat limited on dz's but the minute I got there I was welcomed. The staff was very professional, prices were good . The only thing I will say as a student is after using smaller zp canopies their larger f111 were not my favorite .. but all in all I will be returning as often as I can ... thanks everyone for making it a great trip ...

My wife and I jumped at Skydive Alabama for 3 years and was there almost every weekend. Unfortunately, we had to move out of state due to work. First of all the staff are the most professional of any DZ staff we ever been to, and that's about 15 DZ's throughout the states. Secondly, the plane is always flying, if not the King Air, then the Cessna. Curly, the DZO is always working his ass off making sure the plane's in the air by either flying, or if he's short a TM, he's quick to put on a rig to take a student up, or even shoot video; he's an outstanding person with a great since of humor! Stacey, who works manifest; goes above and beyond any manifest person i have ever seen. Overall this DZ is and will be by far my favorite DZ and choice DZ to visit no matter how far we may live away from it. Keep up the good work guys

I have jumped all over the world, LITERALLY. You will never find a more professional, courteous, and welcoming staff. The facilities are amazing and the camaraderie is second to none. I recommend this jewel to any up jumper who happens to be visiting North Alabama or anyone who is looking for a new home Drop Zone in the Tri-State area.

We jumped at SA for about 3 years before we were forced to move to GA...blah! Anyway, the first time we set foot on the DZ, we were met with smiles and greetings. The DZO is friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He's a pilot, tandem instructor, and holds various other titles/royalties. This DZ is known to be very busy at times, but the Manifest Operator is so sweet. She always tries to help make sure we get on the loads we want. She's curteous to new-comers, but at the same time, makes sure that we are all safe. This DZ follows USPA strictly. I can always count on sound advice from the coaches/instructors. Thanks Skydive Alabama for making my first 3 years of skydiving safe, and a total blast! I miss you guys so very much!

I tried this place out a couple of months ago after moving to Alabama, and quickly found this one to be my favorite. When I showed up after politely checking my credientials I was able to get on as many loads as I wanted to without any waiting around. By now I'm sure that I'm spoiled with the King Air that gets to altitude in no time flat. After hours gatherings with them are fun, and are also family friendly. You surely don't see alcohol induced projectile vomiting here after hours like you might see at other places.

The people here are very safety concious without feeling the need to be skygods that look down their nose at you if you aren't wearing a screaming tight color coordinated RW suit while doing "cat paws" in the air with your eyes closed on the ride to altitude. Humor aside, there are skilled jumpers here willing to help you with your RW skills, free flying, CRW, Wingsuiting, Swooping, Skysurfing, or whatever your particular flavor happens to be.

As a side note, common sense would probably tell you that if you go there without your license, your logbook, your reserve packing data card, or any reliable reference that can confirm your credentials they probably aren't going to risk the safety of the other jumpers there by letting you maverick around all over the sky. Not even if you tell them that you have a friend of a friend who let you jump out of their plane 3 weeks ago...Sorry.

If your a normal skydiver, that enjoys skydiving with cool people and is at least safety concious enough to bring your license, log book, and reserve card, then you will love this place. Otherwise, your better off finding a non-USPA affiliated dz and trying out the new extreme sport of super-skydiving...where you just jump without the parachute cuz its way cooler that way.

Good mix of Belly and Freeflyers even some Birdmen and Crew guys around if that floats your boat. All skill levels from tandem and 1st jump to sky gods without the sky god attitude , take a look around you when visiting almost every staff member is a USPA AFF instructor or USPA Coach from the riggers and tandem masters to the video guys and girls, not to mention several local jumpers that are USPA coaches as well so there is always somebody around willing to answer any question you might have.
Safety is key at this dropzone and everybody looks out for each other, procedures are followed by the book and enforced by the DZO and Manifest no matter whose feelings get hurt. Skydive Alabama is a fantastic dropzone to visit even if just for a day , I learn something new every time I make it down there great people = great times.

A little more than a year ago I achieved my A license from this DZ, I am still pushing on my training as I can (between work , family, ect).

The upjumpers there who I jump with are extremely friendly and very helpful on everything I try to accomplish. There are upjumpers of many different discipline, so you always have someone to jump with!

The owner & staff are some of the best there is out there. I sometimes have a couple of weeks(or 3) between visits and it is always a warm welcome when I get to return, Everyone always asks how my wife and son is doing... Makes you feel like you walk into old friends/family.

The aircraft is top notch and a joy to take a ride to altitude in.

The landing area is HUGE. You never have to worry about everyone trying to fit into a small area, There is plenty to go around for everyone. As a plus, alot of the surrounding areas are large fields/pastures.

The DZ staff always have some "fun" event going on... I've been on a Balloon jump, Heli Jump, High Altitude, and witnessed the lake jumps...

Come and check it out for yourself. If I'm there, I'm always up for jumping with someone new on RW or FF!

Skydive Alabama is hands down the best dropzone in the south east region. I have been jumping at SA for the past year. When I first started jumping there I was the youngest fun jumper at the DZ. They welcomed me with open arms. The staff and DZO are always ready and willing to awnser any questions you may have about the sport. The instructors are professional and knowledgeable. The manager/manafest staff are always on top of it. If you are anywhere in the south east region and looking for a place to jump, or even looking for a home dropzone, Skydive Alabama is THE place to go.

Skydive Alabama is a very professional dz! Very knoweldeable instructors and very mice staff. I drive all the way from Tennessee to spend the weekends out there skydiving because of the fact that they are so nice, treat you like family, and can answer any question that you may have with a smile! Very safe, and they keep you updated on everything. Also, you can always find some one there that is willing to work with you on whatever skill you are trying to learn. Very safety oriented.

I am writing this in response to a ootentially negative review of skydive Alabama, in particular to the people at the drop zone. I am relatively new to skydiving-- with less than 50 jumps. I have jumped in Florida-- Tennessee-- Georgia and Alabama. I can without hesitation or reservation state that the overall courtesy and professionalism demonstrated by the staff at skydive Alabama exceeds any dz I have jumped. From my initial call to skydive Alabama--- to speaking with the owner(jonathon) to the manager(stacie) -everyone --without exception has been professional and friendly. I began at skydive alabama with a tandem with harold mitchell and only have about 10 jumps there total. I have done tandems with harold and another tandem instructor named mike stalker. The tandem and aff instructors have all been extremely kind and patient. Just yesterday an aff instructor named frank had some down time --he initiated an instructional conversation with me -related to spotting-- packing-- wind speed and canopy control;. This guy didn't wait for me to ask- he initiated the dialogue. Also yesterday- another experienced jumper-- named eddie saw me and I guess realized I am still kinda green-- he came over and helped me go thru all my gear.. again- he just took the initiative to assist me. I had a hard landing yesterday--the owner came to me 3 times and inquired if I was ok. my gosh--- these people bend over backwards with regards to kindness and professionalism. I am curious if the author of the negative review is the same jumper( and I am fairly sure he is) who showed up without a log book or uspa card. As an unexperienced jumper-- I rely heavily on the owner- the "regulars" -and manager to insure that everyone on that plane is at least aware of jump safety. The uspa has established what I think is a fairly simple method for jumpers to jump at multiple facilities which is -- bring your log book and card--especially on the first visit to a new dz. The log book and card should serve the same as a driving license-- you need to have it with you to drive. As an inexperienced jumper-- I dont want to worry about the knowledge of everyone jumping with me. There was a recent death due to canopy control- I dont want to be curious if the other people on that plane are knowledgeable about procedures I am 45 years old and still have my training wheels on with regard to skydiving. However- as a school teacher for the past 25 years- I do have a good sense of people.. and the bottom line- the people at skydive alabama in cullman are just plain ol wonderful.

I have jumped w/ Skydive Alabama several different times and loved it every time. Skydive Alabama is the reason I will start working on my A License this Fall. They have been very hospitable any time that I have been there and everyone in the groups that I take has loved it and wanted to come back. They can get busy some days but that can be expected with a popular dropzone, you just have to be patient like w/ anything. I fully recommend Skydive Alabama.

I don't write mediocre reviews...unless they are justified.

The best part of this DZ is the plane. Sorry to say it, but there was one person at this dropzone that was partly decent to me. Every time I tried to strike up small talk, I was met with over-the-shoulder looks, crossed arms and disinterested looks. A lot of "Uh huhs," "yeahs," and "sures."

Maybe I'm just a uninteresting, annoying, and/or boring person but I see unprofesionalism and indifference written all over the staff and DZO...to give them credit, maybe they were all having a bad day.

If it weren't for the plane, it would've received a one.

Went to Skydive Alabama for their 10 year anniversary! They had an all you can jump boogie and it was FANTASTIC! I loved the atmosphere and the people there they were very friendly and helpful, always offering to jump with low timers like myself. They only issue I found was the landing pattern was not set. The landing area is between the runway and the taxiway and the pattern is always so you don't go over the runway but the pattern for the day is not always into the wind and I landed downwind a couple of times. Also they need a bigger indicator for wind direction. They only had wind blades up and a tiny windsock not that visible from the air. But overall I loved this place the atmosphere, the night life, the plane (it climbed to 13k in 12 minutes) I will definitely return to this dropzone someday! Good job skydive alabama and congratulations on your 10 years!!

I never write reviews, but I've got to give props to to a DZ that has given back much more to me in the short time that I've been there jumping...so here goes!:

After making a tandem 2 years ago, I knew I was hooked and started looking for place that I could go through AFF after finishing up on some of my grad school work. I came across Skydive Alabama actually from a recommendation through these forums...so, I decided to make a trip about a year ago and do an observation ride to check things out. Manifest was very accommodating and their staff was very safety conscious throughout the entire experience. Afterward, I ended up hanging around and talking to many of the instructors and jumpers who took the time to answer all of my wuffo questions with a smile. I KNEW this was exactly the DZ where I wanted to jump when I started AFF...

Fast forward a year later...in August 09' I was finally able to start AFF. Since then, I've made over 50 jumps to-date. Not a lot by comparison of many, but enough to write an accurate review. I can't say enough how much I've grown to absolutely love this DZ and the jumpers who come out every weekend. I could go to several other DZ's around me (I live in Nashville), but choose to drive over 145 miles, 2.5 hours South to what I am happy to call my home DZ. Their staff is friendly, business is conducted honestly, and the instructors and pilots are VERY safety conscious...everyone really seems to look out for one another. I've heard stories about other DZs where it's hard for newer jumpers to find people to jump with, but that is NOT the case at Skydive Alabama. They have several coaches that are available and seasoned jumpers often go out of their way to include you on different types of jumps as a newbie. The atmosphere and vibe are top-notch! Halloween parties, Christmas parties, New Year's night jumps, etc. During summer they do bonfires at night and most everyone stays around to have a good time. I've gotten to know a ton of people that are really amazing...none of that "stuck up, I'm better than you" crap, which makes my weekends awesome and allows me to learn a ton from experienced jumpers at this DZ.

Their facilities include a carpeted packing area, heated/cooled office, warm showers, ample camping areas inside the hanger, good sized landing area, several student rigs, packers, riggers, coaches, the FBO has a full-service diner (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and more.

I can't recommend Skydive Alabama enough...the good times I've had in just 6 months alone have made me look forward to every weekend with a big smile. I hope you receive this review as being honest and genuine, because it is...and hopefully it will help you make an informed decision regarding this DZ. As for me...you'll find me at Skydive Alabama!!!

Being a newbie I haven't much to compare other facilities. I may be biased but after reading the one negative comment here I cannot disagree more.

This is a very nice facility and the people are great. I intend to complete my certification here. The instruction was superb, clear, concise and what i am use to having spent 26 years in the Marine Corps.

Safety, safety, safety was stressed and applied in all phases of the training. The flight was quick, the jump well supervised and I felt safe during the entire experience. I would recommend Skydive Alabama as "The" place to learn to skydive in Alabama!
