I've just started my RAPS course there having done my first static line hop this wkend gone and a tandem jump. The tandem master (Chris) is a mint bloke - completely at ease with it all, obviously loves the sport and the tandem jump was fantastic - I'm hooked!

The days solo training was great - there was myself and another person out of a total of 14 who were meant to be training that day - the group of 12 didn't show up but they still trained myself and this other chap.

The location is nice and quiet, facilities are cool (great sausage sarnies!), everyone is great and down to earth (to use a phrase!). Its all good - I cant wait to get better haha!

Excellent little DZ, has no doubt been improved with the hardtop runway and loan of a turbine Nomad over the summer. Very friendly staff and locals, went out of their way to sort out my license issues (I only have USPA licenses at the moment) Nice big area to land in, which is good, because I needed it. I only wish I could get up there more often, I also wish that more UK DZ's could be like Peterlee. Good work fellas.

I started jumping some 8 years ago and because we were unable to jump on the Sunday the (previous) owner opened up on the Monday morning, put two lifts up in the Cessna 182 then closed the centre. The number of people who came down to operate the centre (no chance of them jumping) amased me.

Even with the change of ownership and large increase in the number regular jumpers it has remained a friendly centre.

Bar, camping & shower facilities plus the coaching seminars etc. that Ian has organised all help to make this a fast growing centre.

A hard 'all weather' runway (nearing completion July 04) will make a big difference, allowing us to operate on days when the waterlogged grass strip would normally prevent take off (or force us to fly with light loads). There is even a door due to be fitted to the Cessna (yeh, you've heard that one before but this time it is [almost] true, should be fitted within 2 weeks [local joke]).

Come and pay us a visit, if only to see the floor (pool table) show our 2 local strippers put on.

Been jumping here since 1996 and have seen the DZ improve a lot. There is a strong core of regular jumpers both FS and FF with non of the arrogance that can be found at some DZ's. You will get a warm welcome and have a blast with any of them, either in the air or in the bar later on. Be prepared to lose some hair if you stop overnight!

Bags of progression for students and also getting into team training for both FS and FF.

Anyone visiting the UK should also pop in for a visit, you'll be surprised

A really friendly place to jump. Peterlee has a LET410 and a Cessna 182 and occasionally other planes in from other DZs. Ian, who runs the place, is really approachable and a downright thoroughly nice bloke. The instructors and regular crew are all approachable and I have found no problem chatting with most of them and they readily offer encouragement and advice. With 3 universities in close proximity, it can get a bit hectic, especially during term time when a large number of students converge. All in all, Peterlee is a really friendly place to jump (let's face it we spend 99% of the time on the ground so a good atmosphere is very important). A thoroughly good DZ and I would recommend anyone to come and learn here.

As a student at this DZ i cant say iv noticed anything bad about it, the experienced skydivers dont make you feel like your smaller than them, no one laughs at you if you ask them a question any there is an all round freindly atmosfear.

When i went there a year ago for my S/L Raps course, i was the only person that turned up on that day. The group of 11 they were expecting didnt turn up, The weather was really bad so the place was almost abandoned and they still went on with the course, i had 2-3 instructors to my self. Most DZ's from what iv gatherd would just have asked you to come back another day.

Also recently i went and done a jump (Still student) and later on in the day i decided i wanted another but there were no more students still at the DZ wanting to jump (Students can only jump from the C182 and the experienced jump from the TURBOLET) and the owner ian still put the lift up for me (Even though he was obiousley making a loss of £)

Like i say its grate there (Much better than anywhere else iv been) Definatley worth checking it out if you havent jumped from there recently

Peterlee is a friendly DZ where all are welcome. There is no skygod culture and everyone is friendly and always willing to help (just ask). There is a great mix of people from the surrounding areas including students from the local universities.

The DZ currently has two aircraft, a C-182 and a 16 place LET410 which gets to 13K in about 13 mins. The PLA is large with plenty of overshoot areas.

The packing area can be congested when the DZ is busy and normally packing mats are provided outside to provide additional space. There is facility to playback videos in the bar/canteen area. An electronic manifest makes it easy to find out which load you are on as there are departure viewers dotted around.

Other facilities at the DZ include a bar, canteen, showers, and his and hers bunkhouses (£5 B&B is not to be sniffed at).

Saturday nights are busiest in the bar with the occasional event (live band, karaoke etc).

If you are in the North East of England drop in and check it out for yourself.

Edit - Rewritten

Peterlee use to be a small DZ but with the introduction of a new bar, bunkhouse and TurboLet 410 13000 feet can be reached in around ten people. The only problem is as it has expanded so quickly there are few people about so there are fewer lifts in the Let than most DZs (about 10 a day) but this means you dont have to wait long to be put on a lift. You can be up and down all day without any waiting around.

As my own DZ I am proud of it. We have moved upmarket in the last 3 months introducing the Turbine Let 410 16 place aircraft, licensed bar & larger canteen, bunkhouses, camping & caravan access. Should you want to do a lot of jumps in a weekend day we can provide that. Let will fly with a minimum load of 8. Now that we have the Let there is plenty of opportunity for students to progress using the C182. In the order of 20 Cat 8s qualified in the last 3 months.
