I just recently took up the sport of Skydiving, not knowing any skydivers myself, the need for the right DZ was very important.
Living in Brisbane I started doing my research via the Web about all the local Dropzones doing AFF. I also phoned several DZ's to get a feel of the operator. The result was, that two of them stood out straight away.

My priority was based on location ( travel time, access ) what equipment was in use ( SOS, BoC, Radios ) teaching method (time period, instructors, safety).

Needles to say I finished my course, succesfully, very happy and I am still hooked on skydiving, as a matter of fact I'm having my 100th Jump celebration.

Final Conclusion: Great place to jump, cool friendly Instructors, that includes the CI (Chief Instructor ), the place to be.

I've only been to 4 DZ's before (2 Florida/2 UK) and this was my buddy's first as he was starting AFF.

The DZ is easy find by road, and the staff are happy to pick you up from the train station.

The training isn't as formal as my few previous experiences. There weren't any AFF written course notes, and AFF training was on a one-to-one "get stuck in" basis. Although my mate would have liked a manual of some sort, he loved the one-on-one attention.

The vibe is super-chilled, as only the Aussies know how, with friendly banter and no intimidating know-alls making themselves feel superior at your expense.

Planes were as limited as they could be. Only a single Cessna with room for 5 people. If you want variety and big planes go to a factory DZ and become a flesh-bomb!

There's a nice little cafe at the other end of the airfield with the usual feeding facilities, and parking is 100m walk from the hangar.

As far as the services were concerned, they had everything we needed. They did AFF for my buddy and he was delighted with the personal service, and they held my hand as a novice. All our equipment needs were met, and there wasn't much to get confused with as far as the loads went.

Overall, this was quite different to what I've jumped in Florida and the UK. It was much smaller, lower-key, and less formal. It's a beautiful location with great coastal views and the people are very chilled and friendly.

My favourite memory is of being escorted down the runway by 3 bouncing Roo's under the wing on take-off. A fantastic place.
