Squirrel Reveal Wingsuit Targeted Epicene Canopy

By adminon - Read 7960 times

The guys over at Squirrel have just released a video for their latest canopy, the Epicene. The almost 4-minute long video, which includes a "Rick Roll", also discusses why the Epicene is a great canopy for wingsuit pilots.

While Squirrel have historically focused primarily on BASE orientated products, the Epicene is focused towards the skydiving community, though wingsuit flyers in particular. Squirrel have stated that while the Epicene is the best choice for wingsuit flying, it is also perfectly adequate for free flyers as well.

The Epicene is built with wingsuit openings in mind and is made in such a way that it reduces the risk for line twists and unpredictability, while at the same time opening quickly and also catering to the responsiveness.

The video also puts focus on the pack size of the canopy, with both TJ Landgren and Mike Swanson praising the F-111 hybrid canopy's pack volume.

While Squirrel first began releasing information about this canopy mid-2014 it only fairly recently went on sale to the public, and you can find more information on the Squirrel website.

Interesting! They went with a full F-111, not hybrid? I would be interested to hear the specifics that compare this to perhaps other comparable canopies (Triathlon, PD-7 and 9 cell F-111 mains, Falcons, etc).

This is from their website. It's not 100% f-111 or "Porcher Sport PN9" also it's $2,150.
MATERIALS
Porcher Sport PN9 is the highest quality low-bulk 0-3cfm material available. The ZP leading edge greatly enhances the Epicene's longevity and performance – during the Epicene's development prototypes have all performed well for hundreds of jumps. 725lb Spectra lines are strong but inelastic and low-friction, meaning that it is important for the jumper to understand proper packing and deployment techniques particular to this canopy.

I'm pretty sure the Epicene has been out for at least 6 months...

Perhaps Ellen should have got some decent deployment/packing coaching as apparently she was constantly in line twists and apparently you turn up to DZ's and wingsuiters are cutting away all the time ;) Nice marketing but not really accurate. 1 cutaway in 2002 and over1500 wingsuit jumps with around 900 jumps on massive suits. Currently flying a Viper largest wingsuit ever built with a Spectre 120. So the messaging is not very accurate if your jumping a non elliptical 7 cell, of which their are plenty out their already suitable for Wingsuiting.

Squirrel Epicene manual has an interesting point, their words not mine, "It may be necessary to change your pilot chute for non wingsuit jumps". Nice so you fancy a freefly etc type jump and you may need to swap out your PC what a great feature, but all the promo stuff says its good to go. Not very intelligent.
