Skydive Arizona - Dropzone.com Holiday Boogie 2003292 Dropzone.commers made the trek to Eloy Arizona to partake of the annual gathering of the clan December 24-January 4. Folks from 23 countries attended the event, faring the frigid weather in what was one of the coldest seasons in recent years. The average high was 68F and low of 36F while for those from a cooler clime it was actually warm, for others it was bundle up and layer time. All in all the cold didn't deter the objective of many which was to jump as much as possible, and they did!

Those that were brave enough to arrive to the drop zone early were quickly put to work raising tents, hanging signs, stringing lights in preparation of the mass arrival. Every palm tree was covered in white lights, as was the boardwalk and Bent Prop. The Dropzone.com tent took center stage and was distinguishable by its blue lights and "Budweiser Welcomes Dropzone.com" banners flying from the gathering place as well as the traditional traveling banner signed by members in silver.

A dozen of the sports top professionals were on hand to deliver 15 different seminars on topics as diverse as wingsuit flight and BASE to training methods, video editing, photography and skydiving at Burning Man. All were well attended in casual settings that were conducive to learning. The Airspeed day made for some really great photo ops as did the jumps with Greg Gasson and Omar Alhegelan.

Factory representatives from 18 manufacturers were present to exhibit and demo their wares. They were generous with their time sharing information as well as having handed out hundreds of free tee-shirts, hats, stickers and discount vouchers.

Saturday the 27th found people attending the annual bonfire and weenie roast with rides to and from the main hangar in a wagon pulled by a team of mules. The New Year's Eve party in the main hangar included food, music, champagne and 65 prizes tucked away in balloons that fell from the ceiling at mid-night. Some of the lucky winners were members of Dropzone.com! Keith won a pair of slinks from Performance Designs; rpanter won 50% off a new BirdMan suit as did cwbauer. Blueshrew won a custom voodoo day pak from Rigging Innovations while Messy25 won a complete system from Aerodyne! Quickdraw found the wayward Pixie located in the Christmas tree in the main hangar returning her in exchange for a free 11X14 photograph by Michael McGowan. Sunnydee123, LouDiamond and Prepheckt all won jump tickets for their winning submissions in the: "name the Skydive Arizona Otters" contest.

As always boogies come to an end and we are left with the memories to carry us until the next time. There are some new and exciting things already being planned for the next gathering as Skydive Arizona purchases additional aircraft and builds an onsite wind tunnel complete with dormitories in 2004.
