Perris the 2003 Memorial Day BoogiePosted Saturday, June 21, 2003 By Betsy Barnhouse Perris in the spring brought 94 Dropzone.com members to take part in the Memorial Day Boogie. The DZ dots made 938 jumps over the 4-day event, and more would have been made, but due to weather jumping generally didn't commence until mid-morning. No worries though, it gave us the opportunity to have breakfast and visit with one another.
About 15 people took the opportunity to fly the Precision Aerodynamics products. The most popular was the Nitron, an elliptical non-crossbraced canopy, followed by the Fusion, an entry level tapered design. Also demoed was the Xaos 27 cell high performance crossbraced elliptical design. The demos we provided by Precision Aerodynamics, with JP Furnari as the representative.
B^2 was there with reserves from Performance Designs to fly as. PD donated a 35% off a new canopy coupon which was won by Duece. Thank you PD for your fine support.
Bill Hallett (unisyn) was there from Mirage Systems answering questions about the G3 and G4. He took the time to visit with us on a personal level as well, glad that he is a part of our community. Thanks Bill for doing such a wonderful job on the Dropzone.com Mirage. It sure is purdy!
There were tee-shirts for sale to support the U.S Teams in both Relative Work and the Artistic events. Stickers galore and of course lots of nig-noggery!
Saturday found everyone partaking in organized jumps of one kind or another. The Dropzone.com RW record was set with a 2 point 15 way organized by Hottamaly, while B^2, HooknSwoop, Diablopilot and Mouth did a bad hybrid dive with Tango flying camera. McGowan was out doing the voodoo that he does and capturing our moments like no one else can. If you haven't seen the Birdman rodeo dive of LouDiamond’s check it out in the wing suit forum. Hottamaly also lead the group in a hand game while waiting for loads as the effervescent “Dan” at manifest was telling stories over the PA.” Yeah….like whatever”
Saturday evening found us poolside with a BBQ fare followed by the Bytch's rendition of the Lancaster Bomber. Viking will never forget his ride on the Lancaster and provided all with a good chuckle at his expense as he was doused with ice cold water. It was followed up by a swim in the pool with non other than Daizey.
Sunday morning found us with a breakfast buffet in the Bomb Shelter as we waited for the clouds to dissipate. The food was good and the company exceptional and a plan was laid for the Monkey jump. A six way birdie launched from the Otter that opened into a horny gorilla, and then corked in a true Monkey fashion. Jtval crooned his tunes near the Bomb Shelter only to be mooned in full daylight by two prominent members of our community. Yeah Noice!
All in all everyone had a great time but how could they not? We are after all a family, and the vibe is always one of light heartedness and camaraderie.
Special thanks to the Conaster family and all the fine folks at Perris Valley Skydiving. You made us all feel welcome.
