- Jan Davis dies at Lodi, California - by Mike Spurgeon
Popular and well known skydiver Jan Davis died at Lodi in California on Saturday March 31, 2001. Jan was filming a tandem when the accident happened. The tandem master saw her with a spinning malfunction and subsequent cutaway. He reported a 'pilot chute in tow' to impact. Early reports indicate that the reserve bridal had snagged under her front mounted still camera.

- Skydiving Plane Carrying 22 Crashes in Texas - by Angela Brown
DECATUR, Texas (AP) - A single-engine plane carrying 21 skydivers and a pilot flew into turbulence and crashed shortly after takeoff from an airfield east of Decatur on Saturday, injuring five people but killing no one, the pilot and a Department of Public Safety official said. Pilot Tom Bishop, 58, said the takeoff was normal until the 1956 Dehavilland reached about 300 feet.

A four-way and videographer exited a twin otter from 13000 feet. The videographer filmed the 4 way and everything about the skydive was normal at break-off. The pre-arranged pull altitude for the videographer was 4000 feet. Members of the 4 way observed the videographer at 2500 feet with the main bag-locked.

- $27 Million Settlement in Skydiving Plane Crash - by Joe Lambe
A Jackson County judge on Thursday approved a $27.5 million settlement for families of the pilot and five sky divers killed in a Grain Valley plane crash. Engine manufacturer Teledyne Continental Motors of Mobile, Ala., is to divide the money equally among the six families. The company admitted no fault in the settlement.

- Air Capital Skydiving Plane Crash
On Friday March 9th the 206 piloted by Nick Robson was totaled in a crash north of Air Capital Skydiving. Nick walked away with only a small cut on one hand and a bruized leg.

- Jumpin' Indiana Female Student Fatality
A 24 year old female skydiver died at Jumpin' Indiana on Saturday 10 March 2001. She had just graduated nursing school, and was down to make a few jumps to celebrate. The accident happend during her 3rd ten second delay jump. She had 10 jumps in total and 5 free falls.

- Skydivers feared lost have been found
Malaysian maritime police rescued skydivers from the United States and Denmark who were feared to have been blown out to sea but actually had washed ashore on a deserted beach. Derek Thomas, 44, of Zephyr Hills, Florida, and Karen Willerup of Denmark, lost during a parachute competition off the island of Borneo, sang to each other for five hours Tuesday night (Karens birthday) before help arrived.

- Seven Die As Venezuelan Parachute Plane Crashes
CARACAS (Reuters) - Seven people died on Saturday when a light plane carrying parachute students plunged into the Caribbean near the Venezuelan coast, local media reported. A Cessna 206 aircraft was carrying the amateur parachutists on a pleasure trip on Saturday afternoon near the tourist resort of Higuerote, 70 miles east of Caracas, when it went down.

- Fatality in Shreveport, Louisiana
A 28-year-old Shreveport man was killed Sunday after both his parachute and reserve chute failed to open in a 10,000-foot sky diving exercise near Downtown Airport. Jason Fisher was on a normal jump with three other members of Sport City Skydivers when he was killed. His body was found near the Red River levee about 200 yards north of the airport entrance, off the airport property.

- Lack of oxygen caused skydivers' pilot to crash
The pilot of a skydiving plane apparently lost control of his aircraft and crashed off Mokuleia in 1999 because he was suffering from hypoxia -- a lack of oxygen to the brain -- from repeated flights to altitudes above 18,000 feet without the use of an oxygen mask.

- Small Skydiving Plane Crash in Utah Kills 9
TOOELE, Utah (AP) - A twin-engine plane returning from a skydiving trip crashed into the Great Salt Lake, killing all nine people on board. The plane was on a flight from Mesquite, Nev., when it went down in about 5 feet of water around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Airport officials didn't know it was missing until a relative of a passenger called hours later.

- Base Jumper Dies in off-heading Opening
Michael "Schlefy" Schaefer was involved in a fatal BASE incident on Friday, December 29th due to an off-heading opening from a cliff in Arizona. Schlefy was a beloved staff member of Chicagoland Skydiving in Hinckley, IL.

- Man Dies in Lake Wales Skydive Mishap
A 42-year-old man from Germany died in a skydiving accident Wednesday at Lake Wales Airport. Witnesses said Manfred Klaiber, of Munich, Germany, was an estimated 100 feet off the ground when it appeared he attempted to do a stunt of some sort, Lake Wales police reports said. Klaiber made a sharp right turn, then went straight down, the report said.

- Skydiver falls to death in DeLand - by Michael Haun
DELAND -- A skydiver plummeted to her death Wednesday evening near U.S. 92, and investigators worked well into the night trying to determine exactly what happened during the final moments of her fall. Chantal Bonitto, 31, of New York City, was pronounced dead at the scene, an EVAC spokesman said.

- Acampo Sky Diver Dies in Jump
Nicole Cadiz wanted one more sky dive before the day's end, but she never expected it to be her last. The 26-year-old woman died Saturday evening after winds ripped off her harness during a 13,500-foot free fall at the Parachute Center in Acampo, just north of Lodi, according to the San Joaquin County Coroner's Office.

Day 8, Jump #22. This jump showed promise, but did not build completely. During break off, there was an in-air collision between two skydivers. This resulted in the injury of one and the tragic fatality of the other. In light of this incident and the obvious solemn mood of all the participants, we are ending the record camp.

- Navy SEAL dies in Parachuting Accident
LAKE ELSINORE -- A Navy SEAL from Chula Vista practicing a freefall sky diving technique died during a training exercise Wednesday when his chute appeared to malfunction. Michael Bearden, 27, apparently died upon impact after falling into the Lake Elsinore flood plain in Riverside County, less than a mile from Skylark Airport.
