Holiday Boogie 2001 at Skydive Elsinore

Posted Sunday, January 20, 2002

By Kym Hahn

To celebrate the Holiday Season, Skydive Elsinore hosted its first annual Holiday Boogie December 18-January 4. For two weeks jump prices were reduced to $14.50, and boogie-goers had their choice of two super twin otters, a DC-3, and helicopter to jump from. There were a number of activities organized for jumpers to participate in. Six-Way Scrambles were held on December 22. It was a close event, with the "Tom and Jerry Show" taking the win.

Wuest Ways also met for the first time after a six year hiatus. That’s right, Doug and Marilyn Wuest are organizing Wuest Ways again! Wuest ways is a low-key group that focuses on multi-point 16-20 ways. They will meet every third weekend; their next get together is scheduled for Saturday, February 9. There is no cost to participate, jumpers are simply asked to commit to making three jumps. If you are interested in getting involved in Wuest Ways, please contact Doug or Marilyn Wuest at: dmwuest@aol.com.

The DZ threw a Hawaiian Party on December 29 at Coyote Grill in Lake Elsinore. The festivities included the reggae band, Kindread, Hawaiian food, lots of beer, skydivers in grass skirts, and getting lei’d!! There was also a costume contest and the lucky winners were awarded multiple jump tickets for their efforts.

The following day an accuracy event was held. Jonathon Tagle took first place, Larry Heltzer placed second, and Wyat Drewes came in third.

Load organizing and coaching was also provided for boogie goers, featuring Elsinore Matrix and Elsinore Adrenaline. Elsinore Eclipse and Elsinore Evolution also provided freefly organizing and coaching. A special thanks goes out to all of our coaches and organizers for their participation.

Two Elsinore regulars celebrated milestone jumps during the boogie, as well. Ruth Green made her 1,000th jump and Diana Blackburn broke 100. Congratulations ladies!

In addition to our regulars and jumpers from other area DZs, there were several international groups in attendance from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Japan. Overall, there was a great turn out and all, jumpers and wuffos alike, had a good time. Come join us in December for our Holiday Boogie 2002!
