Skydivers making a child's dream come trueBy Renee Kostreva on 2004-05-24
In the fall of 2001, we lost three members to tragic accidents. In honor of these members, and in honor of all passed skydivers, Team Funnel held the first annual Team Funnel Memorial Boogie on Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Skydive Chicago, in Ottawa, Illinois. The tradition continues.
Our Goal! The past two years we did fantastic, however this year we hope to surpass our accomplishments from 2001 ($5400) and 2002 ($5000). Any additional funds we raise above and beyond what is needed for our child will be distributed to help other children and their wishes.
Through the Make a Wish Foundation of Northern Illinois our child for this year is Crystal. Crystal is a 13-year-old girl who lives in Dekalb County with her mom and sister. Her friends and family describe her as fun loving, outgoing, bubbly and creative. She loves to eat pizza and cauliflower, but not at the same time! She enjoys reading, arts and crafts, making jewelry and rollerblading. Her favorite actor is Sean Connery and she loves watching Oprah! She also enjoys playing with her pet rabbit.
Crystal was diagnosed in May of 2002 with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a fast-growing, highly malignant tumor that accounts for over half of the soft tissue sarcomas in children. Rhabdomyosarcoma often causes a noticeable lump on a child's body. She is currently done with treatment and is taking it easy. She has returned to school and is doing well. She lost her hair during treatment, but it is already starting to grow back.
Crystal's wish is to be in a movie! One of her favorite books is being made into a movie and she would like to be a part of that film. The name of the book is Ender's Game. The movie is not in production yet, but Crystal wants to wait to see this dream become a reality! This amazing wish will be granted thanks to the Team Funnel and Skydive Chicago Memorial Boogie! We hope Crystal can come out and be a part of this special event!

You can't possibly guess what this is! The only way to find out is to show up and be a part of it, or hear about it later (and wonder why you didn't take the opportunity to be a part!)
