2nd Women's Vertical World Record

By Missy Nelson on 2004-09-13

Missy Nelson and partner, Amy Chmelecki of the now Sugar Gliderz "Organizing Team" are organizing the 2nd Women's Vertical World Record at Skydive Chicago on June 24th - June 26th.

This past August at Skydive Chicago during Summerfest, marked the first of five skills camp to prepare for the upcoming record to help women gain the experience needed for such a feat. Each lady who attended felt deeply satisfied being able to obtain group instruction from each dive and met new ladies who grew with them through the camp's experience.

The camp entails learning how to fly in different slots, practicing turning 180 degrees and backtracking away from a formation, learning different exit slots, flying in formation and flying in a designated slot being able to take grips. To attend the camp, you just need to be able to fly on your head relative to others and fly in a safe manner. Ladies not interested in participating on the record are still encouraged to join the camps.

The dates of the camps are as follows:

  • Skydive Arizona - Sat, January 29th - Sun, January 30th
  • Skydive Sebastian - Sat, March 5th - Sun, March 6th
  • Skydive Arizona - Sat, May 14th - Sun, May 15th
  • Skydive Chicago - Tue, June 21st - Thur, June 22nd (World Record Base & Stingers Practice)
It isn't required to attend all or one camp to participate on the world record attempts, but it is highly encouraged.

The WVWR is an open invitation for all qualified women.

For more information, or to be able to contact other participants, you may use the "2005 Women's World Record" forum on Skydive Chicago's website, or e-mail Missy or Amy at SugarGliderzFreefly@Hotmail.com.
