The best I've jumped
Rated by: spence09 (more about me) on 2006-12-28 00:00:00 (user reviews) Review ID:1724

Pros: Great flare, and snappy turns
Cons: none

I just jump my new rig yesterday, which has a Hornet 150 main with 35 jumps, and it was by far the best canopy I've ever flown. I haven't flown but three, but it surely beats a maverick and a safire. It opening on heading every time and I don't even have to roll the nose. It has really snappy turns, whether your using risers or toggles. The landings are the best ever, it has a lot of forward drive so I could do a little 10 foot swoop without diving or anything. I had a downwind landing on it also and it still flew great, just hauled ass for alittle longer and did a butt slide. Has so much flare still left. I only use about half of it and it's plenty for a nice landing. I have mine loaded at about 1:1, but it would just be alittle more fun with a higher wing loading. Great all around canopy, I highly recommend if you come across one.

It is a quality canopy
Rated by: Mozencrath (more about me) on 2006-04-03 00:00:00 (user reviews) Review ID:1512

Pros: Snappy Turns, Good Flare
Cons: Off heading Openings

I have about 10 jumps now on a Hornet 135 loaded at about 1.25. First of all, the canopy is incredibly easy to pack. It is nothing like the PD Zero Porosity fabric. I propacked all 10 of them-did not roll the nose. The canopy opened quickly each time, but was by no means a hard opening. I never had line twists, but it would consistently open off heading. Rear riser input is incredible, front riser pressure I found to be a little heavy. Compared to a Sabre2, the Hornets turns were MUCH snappier and more aggressive, which I suppose could be a good or a bad thing depending on what you want to do with the canopy. I jumped mostly in moderate to high wind conditions. In high winds, you don't have to flare more than 6 inches or so to achieve a soft landing. In the lower winds, I was using almost all of the flare, but it was still sufficient for a soft run out. Overall I love this canopy. I have flown a Fusion, Sabre2, and Silhouette of the same sizes and would have to pick the Hornet as my overall favorite. Don't let the unfamiliar name fool you with this one, it is a quality canopy!

Hornet 170
Rated by: wiggy101 (more about me) on 2005-03-26 00:00:00 (user reviews) Review ID:1238

Pros: Easy packing, fun to fly with lots of flare!!
Cons: Not in production anymore. . .

I have just jumped my Hornet 170 for the first time today (loaded at 1.2-1). I am still new to skydiving with only 26 jumps but our CCI said that it would be fine for me. It was so much fun to fly, the openings were really smooth and both my landings today kept me on my feet really close to my aiming point!! It is such a good canopy to learn how to pack with aswell, the coloured tabs make it so easy! All round so far, I can tell that this is a canopy I am going to stick with for a long time. It is lots of fun but also very forgiving. It's just a shame that they don't make them anymore. . .
